Good evening everyone. Gorgeous weather today. Dew points in the 40s temps in the low 70s. I had last piece of banana zucchini bread, leftover steak and mushrooms for lunch and bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns and cinnamon rasin bagels and watermelon. Have a great night everyone.

Re: Whats cooking this august?

Hello everyone , your meals sounds so good
tonight we had meatloaf , mashed potatoes , corn on the cob , fried okra , sliced tomatoes and cucumbers
We are enjoying the local grown vegetables
I also made a homemade German chocolate cake for a someone recovering from surgery
@ Pooky , I bet your zucchini bread was really good I’ve got bags of shredded zucchini in the freezer to make bread this winter
you may already know this but I thought I’d mention in case you didn’t a tip I picked up here years ago on making zucchini bread from a poster Carol? ( I can’t remember anything but Carol ? , I remember she shared wonderful recipes ) she added a box of instant pudding to zucchini bread batter
An example in Your banana bread you’d have added banana instant pudding in it for a richer moister bread
Theres a lot of flavor combos using the puddings you can come up with
I enjoy experimenting with different combos
I also add flavorings to match the puddings
If you didn’t know the tip and you try it I hope you enjoy
Take care everyone and Have a great week it’s still miserably hot hot hot and humid here
Which is our usual summer weather

Re: Whats cooking this august?

Hi friends!

We got back Monday evening.  We had a great time seeing friends in Tennessee.  We ended up spending a full day in Memphis on Saturday.  DH and I would have never planned to go to Memphis/Graceland but since it was so close to where we were going to be, it would have been wrong not to check it out. Besides the mansion tour, we got to see the car museum, ate on Beale Street, visited The Peabody Hotel, and took in an Elvis show at night. We enjoyed the day quite a bit.

Yesterday I had crown prep on two teeth.  My gums were tender so I ate soft foods for lunch.  Today I’ll probably make some bacon and stick to bacon, eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt.  Our local grocery store had a special on baby back ribs - buy 1 slab, get 2 free.  So I picked up ribs after my dental appointment and will season them tonight for DS’s visit tomorrow .

Our front doors were supposed to be installed today but they called DH to let him know they discovered a flaw in the paint job so they're redoing it and installation isdelayed until later in the month.  I’m glad they found it now rather than later.

This morning I have a massage scheduled.  Later this afternoon DH and I have an appointment at the car dealership due to a mishap on our trip.  A semi’s tire peeled off the wheel and hit our car damaging everything along the front end - bumper, light covers, brackets, etc. Theywill have to figure out all the replacement parts that need to be ordered.  After that, it’s a shopping trip at Costco and picking up a few things at Aldi.

Re: Whats cooking this august?

We are going to have leftover prime rib, mashed potatoes, and broccoli for dinner, with honeydew later. I have been eating melon all summer and can't get enough of it. I could live on watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe. Don't want it to end. Have a great day everyone.

Making boneless bbq ribs, baked potatoes and applesauce tonight.  I made a blueberry bread (with muffin mix), for dessert.

@cusegirl   We have been eating a lot of watermelon, but the few cantaloupes I've gotten have been hard and tasteless.  Sad, because I like cantaloupe.

Re: Whats cooking this august?

@lynnie61 The cantaloupe that we have had this year have been real good, which is surprising because I usually don't pick out a good one. I bought a melon a few weeks ago that was a cross between a cantaloupe and a honeydew and it was very good. I can't remember the name of it.

Re: Whats cooking this august?

Good evening everyone. Cloudy rainy cool day today. My wife actually put her hedeat on in the car this morning and this afternoon. It was just in the 90s and humid less than a week ago. People up here always say.that's New England weather. Had for breakfast Stella doro breakfast treats, for lunch I had a good size green zucchini and and I cooked it with eggs I had a sandwich in Italian bread and tomorrow allso. I made stone fruit crisp with peaches and plouts. It came out delicious and I made whip cream. Leftovers for dinner and watermelon and fruit crisp for dessert I think it was my best fruit crisp so far. Have a great night everyone.

Re: Whats cooking this august?

@Pooky1, Love zucchini and eggs. Haven't had it all summer. Think I will make it for lunch this week as I have a couple of zucchinis in the refrigerator.
