Re: Whats cooking in november?

There was bacon leftover so I made us a little breakfast this morning.  I'm still getting the hang of make poached eggs, figuring out the timing.  There were instructions online that said 90 seconds.  The eggs were barely cooked. Today I did 2 minutes and it still wasn't enough.  Fortunately a few seconds in the microwave finishes the job but I really want to get it right.

Today I have laundry to tackle and want to freshen up the guest room.  We have a friend spending the night on Friday.

The salmon is thawing for our lunch.  I am about to make our usual lemon dill cream sauce.  I'll roast some fresh asparagus for our vegetable.

What a mess I created!!  Yesterday I put the salmon and asparagus in the oven.  I began cleaning something decided I needed to fill the sink.  I was letting the water run, to get hot, and I left to do another quick job.  I got distracted.  When I returned to the kitchen after about 10-15 minutes water had filled the sink and was overflowing down into the cabinet and out to the floor.  I didn’t remember putting the drain stopper in but obviously I did.🤦‍♀️  I just pitched my spong mop recently and haven't replaced it yet.  I called for DH to come and he helped me with towels and getting the cabinet emptied.  Fortunately, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.  I had some dish drying mats in there that absorbed a good amount.  DH pulled the baseboard away and looked under the cabinet floor.  It was OK.  We left the cabinet open and had the kitchen fan on all afternoon so everything could get dried out.  The good part was that it gave us the opportunity to go through things and pitch stuff.  We got rid of about half of what was there.   A bottle of Murphy’s soap that was way in the back was so thick it probably wouldn’t even pour anymore.  Then random cans and bottles saved for “just in case” when they really don't have much product left in them anyway, like a can of bug spray with three squirts left. You get my drift.  We had a box of Scrub Daddies and Scrub Mommies that were fine but the box wasn’t.  That’s a minor loss.

DH and I are going to see the Fab Four tonight so we’ll be eating out near the venue.

Re: Whats cooking in november?

I have a whole chicken in my 10 qt crockpot and I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with it.  I may just serve the breast meat with gravy, stuffing and a veggie tonight. I'm not feeling inspired.

Re: Whats cooking in november?

Made salmon with red peppers, onions, garlic. I also made mashed potatoes and broccoli to go with it.

No time left  to make dessert tho.

So tomorrow I'll make chocolate pudding with all the extra milk I have.

Re: Whats cooking in november?

We put in our weekly grocery order last night.  On next week's dinner menu is:

French dip sandwiches

BBQ chicken

Homemade chicken noodle soup

Ham steaks and potato salad

Oldest DD is supposed to fly out to LA this weekend to visit a friend and attend a concert.  Of course the airports she will flying in and out of are all affected by the shutdown.  She is waiting today to see if her flight tomorrow has been cancelled.

Youngest DD has been on medical leave from her job at Starbucks b/c she has been fainting at work and they required her to obtain medical accomodations from her doctor.  She is waiting for the accomodations to be approved by management.  She still does not know why she is fainting.  She has had a stress test and has worn a halter monitor and that showed nothing.  The cardiologist has ruled out POTS.  She had a consult with a neurologist and is scheduled to have an EEG and MRI.  She may be having some type of migraine. It may also be postural syncope from standing for long periods and being overheated and dehydrated.  She has been wearing compression socking to work but they don't seem to have an effect.

DH celebrated his 60th birthday on Tuesday.  Last Saturday we went out to dinner with friends to celebrate.  We tried a new French restaurant in our area.  The restaurant used to be a diner.  Boy did they transform the space.  It was beautiful.  The food was also great.  We all had steak frites.  The bernaise sauce was the best I have ever had and the fries were fried in duck fat and were so crispy.  We had chocolate mousse and madeleines for dessert.
