Re: What the USDA thinks you might spend on groceries

@SoonerWho cares what the USDA thinks about anything other than grading of meat products?  More wasted federal tax dollars.

I'm out.  You can't talk about anything here any more without people getting in a snit over it.

I've never spent that much on groceries even when I had two children at home.  We ate well, too.

Single widow here on fixed income, I don't eat much.

If we are talking just food, I would never spend $100 a week.

I rarely eat pre-packaged food.

I eat well, I'm not on any kind of diet, being healthy in that category helps.

I live in an area with a lot of choices plus fresh local foods.

Lots of competition means good prices.

Wonder if that includes paper/cleaning & health/beauty too. I buy weekly in those depts too. Some go to the grocery store more than once a week. I have noticed that grocery prices are creeping up. Have you seen the price of steaks? Wow!!!!

@Sooner : Thanks for the information. Please ignore any negative or rude comments. I always enjoy your post. Household of two and just spent $247- included fresh and frozen vegetables plus stocking up on a variety of can goods. Southern Bee

Their numbers are just for food.  No soap or paper towels and such.

For me I think I am on the low side.  I buy very little at a traditional food store.  Just produce at this time of year.  Once you eliminate cans and all processed food your bill falls dramatically.

Re: What the USDA thinks you might spend on groceries

That’s probably what I spend on groceries for myself and a teenage boy, but it doesn’t take into account what we spend eating out.
