Re: What's the best way to slice homemade breads?

@house_cat - If you are having trouble with your serrated knife, maybe it needs to be sharpened.  I always use a serrated knife when slicing bread of any kind but I keep it sharpened.

If you have to force your serrated knife when cutting, then the knife isn't sharp enough. Use a back and forth motion (not just straight down) when slicing. An electric knife won't make it any easier if that knife is dull too!

Yes!  Thank you.

That's the one recommended by ATC. I have it in my Amazon cart right now.

FYI.............serrated knives can be sharpened.

Have this bought from QVC

Agree about letting the bread cool first, altho who can resist fresh hot bread with a slab of butter??? I use an item that I bought off the 50/50 tour QVC did in 1995---it's called the Slices Prefect--anyone remember it? That thing came with a very long serrated bread knife and an insert that adjusts to 2 levels for varied thicknesses---I use that thing nearly everyday on many things--the knife glides along the top of the wooden base and always cuts a prefect slice--Woman Very Happy I can also sharpen that knife too --wonder if I can find a photo of it? Here it is!!! Also look online for bread slicers--found some interesting ones there. I like this one because it gives you even bread slices--I can't cut  even slices with an electric knife or  with a serrated knife on a cutting board free handed, either.

For many years of making homemade breads I always slice them with my electric knife and then in the freezer they go, the extra loaves.
