What's the best way to slice homemade breads?

[ Edited ]

I've been baking more bread lately, but even when it turns out perfectly it's a little hard for me to slice.  I have a long, serrated bread knife. I'm wondering if I should have an electric knife.

For those of you who enjoy homemade bread or buy artisan loaves at the store, what do you like best for slicing them?

Thank you.

ETA: I watched America's Test Kitchen video in which they tested bread knives and winner costs less than $25 on the big A website.  I think the problem might be the knife I'm using.

My husband uses a slicing board that has long grooves ( length of the loaf) so you slice evenly-

A serrated knife is all I use on my breads. Seems to cut them just fine.

Maybe my knife needs to be sharpened.... not sure if you can sharpen serrated knives. I'm old. I should know this by now.

I use a electric knife and I have a electric slicer that slices meats and breads ( like a deli , I used it in my catering business) but I like the electric knife the best I have used a serrated knife also but it tends to “ smoosh “ the bread

The bread should also be COOL before you slice it...

When I used to make bread I found if you let it cool a little and place the bread on its side it slices easier than on the top.

@house_cat

Mercer Culinary M23210 Millennia Black Handle, 10-Inch Wide Wavy Edge, Bread Knife.  Better than my expensive ones. $23 Amazon.

Sometimes cutting bread from the side not the top works better--turn it on it's side and slice.  Also, let the knife work don't try to force it down but slice in a straight smooth slice.
