What's cooking this Merry Month of May?

Flowers glitter gifsI welcome May! Nelson's birthday is today and mine is later this month. Love the flowers, birds, frogs croaking, green grass. It is a happy time of the year.

We had Chinese food last night. Haven't had that in awhile so was a treat. Out for breakfast with the birthday boy. Then I'm off to the races!! Filled car with gas, dropped off cleaning, going for lunch with classmates, picking up birthday cake about 40 minutes away, stopping by for book club, out for dinner tonight. Whee! Tomorrow I head to Indianapolis early with 3 other gals.

Okay, where is spix and Preds? And all you others who pass by? We need your posts.

Winifred, glad you like the meatloaf. That is something we like to have when we return from Florida. Comfort food.

Soushi, Happy Birthday to your DH - did he get to go golfing? HMn????

Hotter than you know what here in Sou Cal - can't get outside things done and some things need taking care of pronto - like the gopher repellent. LOL. It does not work 100 percent but it helps BUT you have to get it down every so often. Too hot today - will pray tomorrow after Curves I can do it. Keep your fingers crossed.

I do not want any snide remarks - am having boiled okra AND some white corn. Works for me!! Just did not feel like cooking any meat - will have some watermelon as a go with.

Preds there are too many May BDs for me, my nephew, his Dad (my baby brother) Tessa's Mom Shannon and her oldest Rebecca - that will do it!!! Use to be October was the super busy month - unfortunately they are all gone!!!

Hope all had a great day!

Morning All, back home from baby sitting, so good to be here, supposed to be a good weather day, going out for breakfast with the neighbors, then hope to work in the yard, think it's still too early to plant, DD picked up 4 flower baskets at Aldi's for me, $2.99 each, what a bargain, 2 are begonia's for a shady spot, the other 2 who knows, hope they survive, left them in the garage last nite, will bring them up on the deck today keeping them a little protectected till this weather settles.

Soushi Happy belated b-day to Nelson, hope your dinner was yummy, have fun on your trip

Winifred, hot weather for you is this normal? hope all the critters are doing well

Preds, Happy B-Day to your DD also, don't have any May b-days in my family, June is a different story

Don't know what's for supper tonite, maybe burgers on the grill

Take Care

Re: What's cooking this Merry Month of May?

Preds, a happy birthday to your daughter and all May babies. We are a good lot!

Had a great day trip with 3 friends. Left the house at 8:30 AM and arrived home at 10:00 PM. I call that a successful day. We went to TJ Maxx and Homegoods, PF Chang's for lunch, DWS, Trader Joe's, consignment shop, dinner on way home.

Not sure what is for dinner. DH didn't get to play golf yesterday, weather was ugly. But he is going today. I'm tired from yesterday but have many chores to do. Will be busy here at home.

Spix, glad to have you back. We missed you. Burgers on the grill sound good to me. I'll have to check Aldi's for flowers. Love that place.

Winifred, there aren't any snide remarks here. You just have whatever you want to eat and enjoy it. Your gopher comments always remind me of that game where a gopher pops up from his hole and you try to smack him. Think it was a video game.

Enjoy the day.

Re: What's cooking this Merry Month of May?

Sent DH fishing with his brother and I'm trying to clean house and do laundry. Our neighbors (good friends) just bought a house, so they are checking out yard sales for things they need. Bless their hearts....so far I've seen everything they've bought and they are off again. LOL At this rate I'll never get things done. Whishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Re: What's cooking this Merry Month of May?

Have a pork steak in the slow cooker with ONLY garlic - now that is strange for me. Anyway, will cut it up and put it in some country gravy and then spoon that over some ww bread. Also am having mashed taters and a HUGE alligator pear - surely everyone knows what that is or is that only from my childhood? Anyway, not to insult anyone's intelligence but that is one of those huge avocados. I grew up in NC eating those big ones and they are not that easy to find out here but found them in Mentone the other day. They were hard as rocks and ALL of them got ripe at the same time but there will not be a bad spot in them. The avocadoes you buy from the grocery stores out here are always a gamble - pretty bad and pathetically small.

Another super hot and humid day but a few degrees cooler than yesterday. That's a joke - it was 96 today. I have been sticky wet constantly. Am looking forward to a shower, wash my hair and then a soak in the tub. By then I hope I feel - and am - clean and refreshed.

Hope all had a great day. How about California Chrome winning the Derby? Yippee for sure.

Re: What's cooking this Merry Month of May?

Oh, I LOVE this picture, Peds. So beautiful. I would like a painting of this picture.

Yesterday was sunny and beautiful but windy and cold. Today, the winds have stopped and it should be another wonderful day.

We serviced coffee at church then stepdaughter came to have a late celebration with Nelson. We went out to lunch then took her to Ulta. She had never been in one and it was like her new candy store. (It is a store filled with makeup, hair products, etc)

We had warmed over bean soup and grilled hot dogs for dinner. Yes, no veggies with this. I need Winifred here to prompt me to eat my vegetables.

Have many errands to do today. Dry Cleaners, Goodwill drop off, post office, returns so I will be busy.

Enjoy this day, it will never return again.

Re: What's cooking this Merry Month of May?

Pretty picture Preds. You give us some great things of beauty to look at.

Nothing wrong with a good hot dog Soushi. I probably would have had only that. My dinner last night was an avocado sandwich - nothing else. Still have two of those HUGE avocadoes left and I need to get them eaten before something goes awry with them. I love those big ones - very hard to find out here but they are always the best and I never buy a bad one. With those small things otherwise known as Calavoes (grown in Ca and hard to find really good ones) - always a toss up whether they are even good when they get ripe. This one was so big didn't even take a half of one for the sandwich and I cut the slices thick - no problem, I ate the rest as is. Yummy!!

What for dinner? Not sure but probably a chicken breast fixed in some manner - will think about it. Do know there will be boiled carrots with butter and boiled okra - two of my favorites. Collards are still getting expensive - makes no sense to me but then with our gas prices soaring I guess it does. Always something. Actually all the veggies are getting sky high - this happens every year, gas goes up and prices soar!!!!! Everything else goes up too - like sewer, trash - and so it goes. Really gets tiresome. Do know I really want to get out of here - is becoming a nightmare.

AFter some blazing hot days today is only suppose to get to 74 - that means chilly. We will have that for a few days then the temps will start creeping back up again. Am glad to see it because it just got way too hot way too early in the season.

Had a great Sunday. Three other ladies and I went to yet another church and it was magnificent. It is Wildwood Calvary Chapel. A fairly new church but growing by leaps and bounds. It is built in the hills - what isn't around here and by that I mean the original landscape is hilly and they had 5 golf carts to pick up and deliver people from and to their cars. I think that is just great. They appear to be very "people" oriented. What a concept.

Next two weeks we will be at Olin's church in Beaumont. Did a mile check on both these places. Olin's church which is in another town is almost 9 miles away. This church which is here (actually another town but with the county line across the street, so it is another town and we always look at it as the same town) is 7 miles from me - interesting. It has never made sense to me that the County line runs down a street, therefore, another town also but those of us who live in this area never think of it that way. Confusing? Hope not.

Hope all have a great day!! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}
