Re: What's cooking this January?

Tonight we had club sandwiches on fresh sourdough bread I buy from a local bakery and chips
we love the sourdough bread so much I but a loaf every few weeks for sandwiches
I’ve thought about making a starter and doing my own sourdough bread but we just don’t need that much bread

2sisters and others with health issues I hope you feel better soon

JeanLouiseFinch I can’t even imagine getting 32 inches of snow I bet it’s beautiful
That’s so thoughtful of your son to clear the snow for neighbors

Hopefully those freezing cold temperatures warms up soon for everyone

Re: What's cooking this January?

Since it's been so cold I made pot of beef stew.

After that was gone I made a pot of chicken noodle soup. Ate the last bowl this afternoon.

DH wanted some pot roast so I made that today. DH made a pot of green beans. We will be eating leftovers Sun & Mon.

Re: What's cooking this January?

A dear family friend is visiting from out of town and my kids wanted to see her, so we had a houseful of people yesterday.

I made a crockpot spinach-artichoke dip, lots of chips and snacks, a crockpot full of meatballs and sauce for hoagies and four large pizzas from the local pizza place. My son's partner loves to bake so she made a decadent chocolate cake as well as creme brulee.  I totallly forgot I had made a huge salad, but there was plenty of food so no one noticed.

I divvied up all the leftovers, but saved enough meatballs and sauce for DH and me to have tonight with some pasta.  Thank goodness, because I'm dragging my tail this morning.

@RedTop

I have the "em heat" setting on my thermostat and never knew what it was. We're having the same cold temps here, so I'm going to look into that.

Re: What's cooking this January?

@house_cat,
The EmHeat feature will heat your house off your inside heat exchanger, like an electric furnace; your outside unit will not run while your thermostat is on that setting. Your house will feel warmer and the unit will not run as much, but the drawback is the increase your electric bill. In arctic cold temperatures, we feel it's worth it.

Re: What's cooking this January?

DH is at a fishing seminar/class. I sent a tray of brownies and there will be potluck plus pizza after the event

I'll have salad and some leftovers I can probably find hiding in the refrigerator.

Thinking of you and Jack, @kate2357. DD said Seattle is just rain, rain & more rain. We think she misses the snow she grew up in here in Wisconsin. I hope you both are healing in comfort.

Re: What's cooking this January?

I had planned to make grilled pork loin chops and fried Brussels but that's not happening today.  We decided to do our Costco trip after church (big mistake, super crowded) and DH asked if I'd mind eating at their concession area because he was starving. I didn't want anything there, but I wasn't mad. He had his pizza tops and I'm going to make myself a "Tiffany Plate" when we get home.

Ok, just saying it.  We are having McDonalds for dinner, and we never do that.  Chicken McNuggets and a big Diet Coke for me, and a fish and fries for my SO.  I'm saving room for some dessert I can dig up.  Then, I'll regret eating this as my dinner.  Not sure, why, but I swear their coke tastes better than anywhere.  Maybe because I don't have pop often.

Have a good night.  I have the TB, Detroit game on.

Re: What's cooking this January?

Made spaghetti, salad and garlic bread.  DH doesn't like to have a meatless meal but sometimes his arteries needs one!

My oldest son and grandson came by this afternoon for a good while.  So I loved having them here.  With this bitter cold and someone  always has a runny nose it's been hard seeing everyone.

@lynnie61  nothing wrong with McDonalds.  I have on occasion gotten a happy meal for myself and your right their coke is like no one else's.  Not sure why.

This bitter cold is suppose to come to an end Tuesday.  I sure hope so. Have a good evening everyone!

Re: What's cooking this January?

Tonight we had roast beef sandwiches with provolone cheese on the last of the sourdough bread with low salt chips
Lunch was at our favorite bbq place I bought extra bbq pork , brisket and chicken I’m planning on making another pot of Brunswick stew this week , I’ve been thinking of it since Christmas
I only got one bowl before it was all gone I’m really wanting more

lynnie61 lol I had to stop by McDonalds twice this week to get food for two of my grandchildren
As we was going by my granddaughter saw the sign in the window the happy meals now have the squishmallows she’s been watching for
I’m sure we’ll make several other stops until she collects all
the squishmallows she wants

Re: What's cooking this January?

Regarding McDonald's Coke!

I happened to read on the internet just this morning that people

wondered why it's better than other fast food places. Their machines

are kept clean and Coke syrup is delivered in stainless drums versus

plastic bags like other places.
