Re: What's cooking in your kitchen this simmering September?

Eating very lite lately lots of fresh salads, veggies and fish. Spent a great day sitting by the pool tonight enjoying a great chopped antipasto. And maybe a nice piece of cod with lemon.image.jpg

Re: What's cooking in your kitchen this simmering September?

That salad looks delish.     It would be perfect for today which is going to be yet another scorcher.    I have a dr appt today at 1:15.   It is a follow up from my surgery.  I hope he tells me I'm on schedule but it seems to me last time, things were coming along faster.   Then at 4 I'm baby sitting three of my Great Grandchildren for an hour.  With this new scheduling Grandson can't get home before 5 since he teaches hs.   Hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.

Re: What's cooking in your kitchen this simmering September?

That salad indeed looks really good. I love salads and do not eat them like I did when I lived alone. Having teens in the house surely changes a few things. LOL.

Betty, hope your MD visit goes well - bet it does.

Not a super hot day expected today - I LOVE IT!!!!! So far the weather experts have us tagged for much cooler days, however, than what it has really been. Cannot figure it out why they cannot get closer to what it will be.

I pulled a big pizza out of the freezer and that was dinner. Kids loved it. My day yesterday started at 4 a.m. and I did not sit down and rest until 6 p.m. I was really tired. Here and there and still had to get Davey to and from school, Also got two loads of wash done - hung out and back int he house but sad to say I did not get it put up - shame on me. Just sat and looked at it. Well that needs to be done some time this morning.

Speaking of this morning, it will be busy, Davey to school, me to Curves and then Tessa to her MD - of course he is in another town - everything is in another town where I live. LOL.

Am hoping to fix a roast in the slow cooker for dinner. Should have time to do it a bit later. If this happens will have some new/baby potatoes and probably some carrots or collards as go withs also. Sounds good to me. Sad to say, however, roasts have not been on sale in a very long time and I think I only have three left in my freezer - not happy about that. Have always managed to get some good roasts at either Foods 4 Less or Vons for good prices - but not lately. Sure is an easy meal to fix.

Hope all have a great day and don't forget to eat well!!!

Morning All, happy to see we're started for Sept, Thanx Soushi!

Still hot/humid here so I'm trying to stay in this am,  cleaning the kitchen today, need to also get to the bathrooms & spare room as sister is coming in town from Carson City, had to forgo the airport entertainment, also need to get some menu's ready, thinking some slow cooker ones, so we can be out & about & not worry about cooking, other wise it'll be something on the grill.

That salad really looks good, hmm

Re: What's cooking in your kitchen this simmering September?

I had that big roast in  the slow cooker but it was taking forever. It was a different kind of roast and really solid and really frozen when I put in the cooker. Was taking forever so did a quick side step and it worked out - another weird one but healthy. Heated up the pasta with alfredo sauce we had the other evening, and fixed some turnip greens and had chunkc of watermelon. Well a bit different but interestingly enough everyone pigged out. Everything was gone - even the greens. Was not sure how well they would go over - all had them before but not often except Tessa, she was use to them. So the roast finished cooking by about 6:30 or so - I sliced it after cooling and it was put in the fridge. Oh yes, also put a note on it - especially for Davey and his Mother's benefit - DO NOT TOUCH!!. Guess the note worked as it was still there this morning - without that note a lot would have been eaten later in the evening. Sigh.

Very very chilly this morning. Am not thrilled as Curves closed yesterday at 10 in the morning and will stay closed until Tuesday for the holiday. I just think that is way too long for a Monday holiday. This owner closes a lot and for much longer period of times than Sally ever did - have surely missed Sally. Will miss Curves as it is  permanently in a couple weeks. This Curves is bumper to bumper with people so will question the real reason for her closing it. Do know she bought a new RV and those things cost money. Will be joining Reps for Life but will have to drive further away. Curves is in the next block, this gym will be about 5 to 6 miles away. ANot happy but what can I do. I will miss the Curves format but I must do some exercise and Reps has a low impact area of equipment so will survive.

Will have roast for dinner tonight. Smiley LOLHeart

I forgot to menion - Spix, I doubt you made two posts - same thing - as you know for the Back Fence and Bird Nest. I think it is these )(*(&^^& boards. I thought perhaps it was only me seeing them. Do you see two threads on these I just mentioned?

Hot here today.     My take is the moderators are taking turns for holiday time  they are slowing things down since they are short staffed and if there is any funny business it's usually on holiday time.  Can't explain the double threads tho since I've never had them.   This is no way to keep interest up.

Re: What's cooking in your kitchen this simmering September?

Evening all,

Served coffee at church today. Really love doing that. It is always interesting and enjoy seeing the people. Have so many young families, good to have them.

Making the old, old recipe for cards Tuesday. It is a favorite of DH. And there should be some left for him. Also bought an apple pie at Costco. I've had a sample and it is wonderful.

Re: What's cooking in your kitchen this simmering September?

Soushi, that looks good and serving coffee is fun. We have coffee and tidbits to eat but people are on their own. Works well - we are a SMALL group.

Getting on to these boards took longer than it did yesterday. I guess it is another day of misery. Whatever the problem by now it should have been fixed. Wish we would go back to the boards of about three revisions back - simple and easy to use.

I had whatever yesterday. A neighbor gave us a HUGE pizza so that was for lunch - still a lot left and the kids wanted those frozen dinners for dinner so that was that. Easy on me for sure. Saturday night had roast, gravy, mashed potatoes and buttered carrots - very very good. That was the roast that took forever but it sure was good. I had a sandwich last night for my dinner and veggie straws. No one but me likes them but they are so good. Made with sea salt, brand is Good Health. Cannot remember where I got them as this is the first bag I have ever had - they come in 6 packages in a bag.

Started heating up yesterday - darn it. Have so enjoyed the past week but triple digits are headed back. I should not complain as September is often as hot if not hotter than August.

Today we are having packaged hot and spicy chicken wings. Did NOT want to barbecue or whatever - also have some packaged sweet potato fries and will have cucumber in vinegar. I was given 6 HUGE beautiful cukes yesterday and I must find a way to use them up before spoiling. I normally only have 2 at a time in my fridge as it is difficult to use them all - and I bug BIG ones. LOL.

Hope all have a great holiday today.
