Re: What's cooking at your house this January?

Good Morning. We're having a temporary heat wave here in NW Indiana, 23° this morning, but the windchill makes it feel like 16° - still warmer than yesterday. More snow is coming later this afternoon and will last through the night. Below zero temps return on Monday before a warming trend takes place later in the week. After all this cold, we're supposed to get some freezing rain next Saturday. That will make for some really bad driving conditions.

Yesterday morning's breakfast was a hit. It was a bread pudding recipe using cinnamon swirl bread, then adding raisins, apple. It would have been perfect on its own, but DH and I decided to do it up big with a little pure maple syrup....delish!

The double batch of baked potato soup I made on Thursday is just about gone. It was requested that I make more, so that's on my agenda today.

Soushi - enjoy soaking up all that beautiful sunshine!

Predsfan - that warm cup of tea looks good. I recently bough a new assortment of teas - think I'm going to make myself a cup since DH is still sleeping.

Re: What's cooking at your house this January?

Soushi, sounds like perhaps the weather is better where you are than where my sis and bil are. She called last night and said it was 41 - they are not real pleased at this point other than that is a lot better than home in Michigan. Today may be our last Spring like day for a while - yesterday it was 75 and very very lovely. Brilliant sunshine to go along with the nicer weather.

Nomar, beckyb12, madame j, RetRN come on back and sit a spell. JeanLouiseFinch, that breakfast sounded just great. Spix, how are things with you and Predsfan, you do find some great pictures. If I missed anyone chalk it up to old age or something like that but the bottom line is we love having everyone stop by.

Am leaving some hot tea and hot coffee. Couldn't decide on bagels or hot biscuits so brought both - along with some cream cheese and butter. Yummy. Have a great day everyone.

Have the two teens here for the weekend so thank goodness I still had one frozen pizza hanging out also - needless to say that took care of dinner last evening. For some reason I was not hungry so only had a small piece. Today will warm up some black eyed peas and collards - perhaps for lunch and maybe a pork roast for dinner - sounds good and easy to fix.

Re: What's cooking at your house this January?

Soushi you are in "heaven" & you know what the rest of us are getting, today in ChiTown will be 30ish, but lots of snow coming tonite, then down to -19 Sunday nite high of -10 on Monday, but I will be thinking of you. My kitchen hot water pipe has frozen, got the hair dryer running now hopefully that will do it & it's not something worse

Last nite made the pork chop recipe w/cream of mushroom soup, oh it was so good, mashed & a salad, today I need to run out to the grocery store for basics, bread, etc, but have a dental appt Tues AM & it's also an O'Hare day, so hopefully my car will start, really need to get to the dentist, think I lost part of a filling, very sensitive. Don't know what's on the menu today, will wing it.

Well ladies, looks like most of us are in the same situation weather wise, so stay in & stay warm & let us know how you're doing

Take Care

You know it's bad when the snowplows get stuck! Kosciusko County is pulling plows off of the roads and stationing them at area fire departments. Stay home, folks!

This is a picture of my area in Indiana. They have updated it to a blizzard now.

Guess I should call the folks at home and tell them it was 80 here today. And I spent the day at the beach.

Re: What's cooking at your house this January?

It started snowing Saturday evening, here in NW Indiana, and didn't stop for nearly 24 hrs. We got a bunch (probably a foot or so). The dog loved playing in it while DH and I shoveled and blew it. Every county in the top half of the state went to a RED state of emergency, except Cass, Koskiusko, and Wells. Why, I have no clue. All county roads were closed to non-emergency traffic. Today it's going to get down to about -20°F. Right now it's -13°F, but the wind chill makes it feel like -43°F. Brrrrrrr! Today the dog only goes out to do his business, but then he's right back in - too dangerous to be out there for too long. Poor guy can hardly find a place to squat without snow being up against him.

The baked potato soup I made on Friday didn't last long so they wanted more on Saturday. I made another double batch. Last night no one was hungry for a big meal so we just had a bowl of soup. It's just about gone now.

Tonight I'm making Snow on a Mountain for supper - seemed appropriate.

I'm just hoping my daughter makes it home today. She left yesterday morning a 6AM to open the store. At 1PM her relief called to say she wasn't coming in. DD ended up staying, but then couldn't come home due to the road closures. She and the other employees were put up in a hotel overnight, but I don't know when the roads will reopen, if the do at all today....lots of blowing and drifting with those dangerous temps.

Re: What's cooking at your house this January?

Morning, well my car started so the dentist is a go, now if the streets are driveable, hopefully he'll solve the problem today.

JLF your weather is the same as ours, really nasty out there but the sun is shining, in a few days it'll be much better, don't know if we'll get rid of any of this snow, might not get that warm.

Soup seems to be the food of choice, sure sounds good to me, when I get home I think I'll put on a pot

Soushi really try to contain your glee, just kidding I'd be doing the same,Winifred you're not bad weather wise, the rest of you stay warm & stay in if you can

Predsfan the toaster is a good idea to stay warm & pop right up, love it!
