Right now...I use a relish tray to keep my pens and pencils from rolling off the desk.

Green and black olives, carrots, celery, radishes, crackers and cheese spread. That's how supper clubs in the midwest do it.

@ECBG : I have the same relish tray that was my mother's. She always filled it with pickled peaches and spiced apple slices. The second tray with carrot sticks and celery.

Funny. I've never heard of a "relish tray" in my entire life. I'm hearing about this for the first at 62. I've missed out on relish trays.

That's the best I can remember the tray from high school.
I hope you are fine. I'm teaching W Watchers to a friend of DH. He has a bad back and would suffer less with weight loss. He lost his only son about 3 years ago too; and is alone. You can just imagine how he eats.

No relish trays at my house or gatherings. Ever. Just not what my family has ever done.

I can see it as a Victorian tradition.

When I hear "relish tray" I always think of old time supper clubs which ar experiencing a resurgence where I live. These trays usually include simple veggies/olives and a soft spread cheese and crackers.
I recently hosted a dinner party and we (our family and circle of friends) always have cocktail hour and hors d'oevres as people are arriving before dinner.
I made a charcuterie board with sliced caraway seed cheese (from Ellsworth Creamery in Wisconsin--yum) and Trader Joe's bagel crackers. I made rosettes from salami secured with a toothpick, a hunk of cranberry cheddar cheese with a cheese knife for guests to cut, cashews and I was so fortunate this time of year to find big lucious sweet red grapes.
Sometimes it is the simple food that is devoured as there was virtually nothing left.

We do relish trays before Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. When we in ite friends over for drinks, I make a relish tray. It's fun to make. It can include olives, pickles, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, celery sticks, mushrooms, jicama strips, crackers, various cheeses. The possible selections are endless.
