Hi everyone - sorry I have been absent but it does not look like I was missed. LOL. Must say it has been a miserable week for many reasons - having said that I must say others have it worse. Been eating well - tonight only Davey and I here so we are having pizza rolls. Not my favorite but certainly one of his. Have been super busy with the two little ones for one reason or the other.

I do not say much on this thread but my two little ones - my great great grands - which as of tonight I have custody of - may be removed come tomorrow. It has been a difficult time - no, I have done nothing wrong but the point is I am old - and that seems to bother the powers that be. Court is tomorrow and I will find out if they will be placed elsewhere, stay with me or put in foster care - that terrifies me.

Hotter than you know what out here in Sou Cal - not the first time we have had this in October and I must say I like it better than freezing but it is a change from the norm.

Hope all have had a great day! Almost forgot to mention that Davey will be 17 this Friday. He is doing great in school - first time in years - but still needs to improve on his laziness. LOL. Am pleased he is finally getting some credits in school.

@Winifred  I hope the children can stay with you, how traumatic if they are taken, for you and for them.  You probably won't sleep tonight, worrying.  Fingers crossed.Smiley Happy

@Pooky1  I had forgotten that I have made mock mashed potatoes with cauliflower and it was delicious, will have to again soon.

Winifred, sending good thoughts your way. I hope the powers that be see how much of a positive influence you are on the two little ones. Wishing that everything turns out the way that you hope it will.

Re: What's Cooking in October 2017 - trying to get month correct

It is cold here today and I am preparing a chuck roast in my pressure cooker.  I have a casserole dish of scalloped potatoes ready for the oven.  I will cook some green beans and cornbread to go with the rest.   Haven't cooked in a while as I had some surgery.  I am worn out from just doing that small amount in the kitchen.  Think I will rest while the roast is cooking.  My hubby will be surprised when he gets home from work !!

@Pooky1@mousiegirl and @marky-------hi to all !

Everyone's meals sound so appetizing and interesting. I get hung up in my

"same old, same old" and have to remember to do something different.

@marky----your dinner sounds like perfection to me. I can understand you being worn out, though, since you are recovering......But you seem very rightly proud of the surprise dinner you have waiting for DH....

My Martha Stewart turkey dinner arrived today and the size of the spinach/

mashed potato sides is really disappointing. It is not for Thanksgiving so

it will be fine for me but would definitely NOT be dinner for four.

When I was out doing errands this morning, I stopped at the deli and got a breakfast sandwich. I also got a turkey sandwich and I am having that for dinner with Panera soup.

Re: What's Cooking in October 2017 - trying to get month correct

@Winifred-----it is a little after 2pm your time so maybe you aren't home yet. This is heartbreaking news and you are in our prayers.

What does the state consider "old" ? Based on the things you post, you seem to be very active and I don't get the sense that you spend all day in a rocking chair. Just dealing with the little ones and a teenager must be exhausting , physically and emotionally, and you must be very tired.

Has no one thought of providing you with daily assistance rather than removing the kids ?

We are all pulling for you and wish you well.

@Danky  I am right now roasting cauliflower to snack on as you mentioned in another post, so thank you for the idea.  It never occurred to me to eat it during the day, lol.

Re: What's Cooking in October 2017 - trying to get month correct

I am 7 days post op from total knee replacement, so not a lot of cooking action happening in my kitchen right now.  Mostly simple heat and eat dinners.

I had my second PT session today, which went very well.   I asked my husband to park inside the garage instead of at the back door, and without assistance, I made it up the 4 steps to the ramp, to get inside the house—another very proud moment for me.

The excitement made me hungry, so we seared steaks in an iron skillet, had baked potatoes and corn.   I have beans soaking overnight, and will fix fried potatoes and cornbread to go with it tomorrow.   Good meal for another very cool day.
