It depends on the occasion...Antipasto salad as a meal, Caesar Salad with my own homemade dressing,(with anchovies, but you would never know they were in there) that I have made for umteen years with steaks and such, and Coca Cola salad with a dollop of mayo for certain pork/poultry meals........BUT never any iceberg lettuce salads....... for me alone........

Well....you can't say that without giving us the recipe.....
Now, can't deal with raw onions, so they would have to be grilled as well....

I got a big bag of Broccoli at Sam's Club and put some to good use tonight.

My favorite salads are about 50% white button mushrooms sliced, some lettuce, some tender spinach, some beet leaves, some Asian greens, olives, hard salami, provolone cheese, a little sliced cucumber, some thinly sliced sweet onion, and a touch of baco's.
For years I've been topping this with white Balsamic vinegar and a quality extra virgin olive oil but this year I've switched back to Wishbone's chunky blue cheese dressing. It was America's test kitchen's favorite blue cheese dressing and I'm inclined to agree.
This salad is also great with Roquefort dressing, but that's getting difficult to find anymore.
Occasionally I'll throw in some thinly sliced smoked ham also.
Enjoy!

I just saw that episode of ATK with the Wishbone blue cheese dressing. I agree. It's good stuff.
I like to make a layered salad, where the first layer is torn lettuce, followed by different vegetables and then the whole salad is "frosted" with a dressing. I use lettuce, onion and celery, some chopped green pepper, chopped tomatoes, chopped broccoli and cauliflower, frozen peas, sometimes some chopped hard-boiled eggs, chopped crisp bacon, whatever I have on hand in the veggie bin. I put it all in a pretty glass trifle bowl, so that you can see all the layers, and then frost it with my dressing. Then sprinkle with some freshly shredded sharp Cheddar. My sister and brother love that salad as much as I do and there are never any leftovers.

Did you ever grill romaine? OMGoodness, it's wonderful stuff! I make my Caesar salad using grill romaine. And then I'll grill the bread that I'm going to use for the croutons, too.
