Re: What is up with the price of mayonnaise?

A quart of mayo (Hellman's light or Dukes) would last me a year. . .AND YES, homemade is fabulous! I used to make it a lot in the blender or the Cuisinart.

Re: What is up with the price of mayonnaise?

I did a mayo check yesterday, my original store is definitely out of line, but its not a mistake. All the brands are higher than normal. $3.99 is the price of the small Hellman's. The other stores are around that price for the 30 oz., and Walmart is running one at that price with an extra six ounces free. This store is my meat store, an independent grocer with great quality meat. But that's going up too, the ground round was up to 4.99 a lb. yesterday. I didn't dare even look at the steaks. Time for more price comparisons, but I hate to compromise on meat quality. Its like there is a new owner, but there isn't.

Re: What is up with the price of mayonnaise?

I used to be brand loyal to Hellman's but was recently at someone's house where they served a delicious tuna salad they used the Costco brand, both tuna and Mayo. I have used Costco's tuna for years, still a full sized can and every bit as good, or better, than the leading brands but I had never bought their mayo. Anywhoo, the last time I was at Costco I priced out both brands of Mayo and the savings was significant. As long as the taste is comparable, why spend the extra $$$.

Re: What is up with the price of mayonnaise?

Everything's going up so much. I'm shocked at even ground beef prices, not even counting other cuts. We get usually get the Costco Kirkland mayo in the 64 oz. jar unless the name brand is on sale/coupon. Notice what that label looks like. I believe (but don't know for sure) that Best Foods makes the Kirkland. Many brand name companies make the house brand products. It's usually less than the Best Foods/Hellman's but even now, it's a little over $5 for the 64 oz. In the new Costco coupon book (8/7-8/31) the Best Foods/Hellman's is $2.00 off, limit 3 (each day).

I buy Hellman's too, but not for $9.00. Hellman's is on the pricey side. I usually buy it when it goes on sale. I also pick up a double sized jar at the club stores.

Re: What is up with the price of mayonnaise?

I will buy Hellman's when it is a BOGO...$3.98 a regular size jar so it makes it about $2 a jar. I check the "use by" date and stock up. When my regular mayo is BOGO, I do the same. I olny use the ones with "olive oil" in it.

I bought a 64 oz. jar of Hellmans yesterday @ Wal-Mart, and only paid slightly over $8.00 for it.

Re: What is up with the price of mayonnaise?

I always get the smallest size of Hellman's they have.

I don't use it too often and I don't know how long it lasts after being opened.

Does anyone know????

Re: What is up with the price of mayonnaise?

I don't know where many of you live, I am in California and Best Foods (Hellman's) hasn't been 3.99 in years. I don't use it often at all as I use Veganaise. I have a couple recipes I need BF only. I bought the small jar, and that was 4.89. The quart when on sale is 6.99. I guess the quart isn't even a quart anymore, but you know what size I speak. I know it isn't 9 bucks, but it is around 8 dollars regular price.

Everything went up a week ago. Whole Foods prices are so bad, I won't shop there often at all. I go to Trader Joes, Costco or a Community market over the hill. Here is an example, a smaller box of Barbara's Oat Square cereal is 6 dollars at Whole Foods. The same brand (Barbara's) at Trader's in a larger box is 3.99. The natural chicken (whole) is 5.99lb and breasts parts are 9.99 LB yesterday at WF. I get organic breast parts for 5.99-6.99 everyday at conventional market They said they had a price hike across the board . YIKES!!
