Re: What is going on with onions?

If you submerge, or rinse, your hands in cold water, the tearing-up effect will stop quickly. It may seem bizarre, but I've also heard of wearing goggles while chopping onions.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

Re: What is going on with onions?

slice a tomato and leave it open on counter top and in refrige. Also if the onion saturates your hand use a tomato or Ketchup as a soak and it removes onion.

I detest the smell

Re: What is going on with onions?

They've always made my eyes tear---like A LOT. In fact, I used to jokingly put on my kids Speedo goggles while chopping! It really helped! And that lead me to search on Amazon and sure enough there are onion goggles to purchase.Smiley Happy

Re: What is going on with onions?

The last two batches of white onions I've bought have been extremely strong and made my eyes burn and tear. I could smell onions on my hands for hours despite repeated washings.

Usually I don't have a problem.

I will try the tomato trick. Thanks. Smiley Happy

That and potatoes. The last two bags of white potatoes I have purchased have had the weirdest shaped potatoes in them I have ever seen. A lot of them were shaped like hearts. And they do not keep like they did in the past. Do you think the onions are not keeping very well either? Maybe it is the weather where the produce is growing.

Rubbing your hands on stainless steel removes onion and garlic odor. I have a stainless steel meat pounder: I rub my hands on it under running water-try it. Poodlepet
