What is cooking at your house this December?

Christmas religious Clip Art | Religious Christmas Clipart ~ 97 Images

Morning all,

Yes, it is December and I'm 2 days late in starting us out. We made the trip to Indy for my annual Mammogram yesterday and then followed up by doctor visit. It is an all day affair. Of course, I couldn't leave town without stopping at Trader Joe's. I bought the lemon tart everyone is raving about and the sweetest little poinsettia. It is sitting in my kitchen window.

My fresh pine wreath is on the door with a silver ribbon. Have a winter greenery arrangement outside the front door. I added small white lights that brighten it up.

I'm going to get on my soap box here. My clip art this month is to reflect what we are celebrating. Tried to find Christmas cards that didn't have snowmen, reindeer, Santa Claus, winter scenes, pine trees, you name it. No, for me it isn't Happy Holidays. Do we remember what Christ-mas is all about? Okay, enough said.

Here is a favorite cookie recipe of mine to start us off on the CHRISTMAS season.

Dainty Sugar Cookies

1 C. butter

1 C. shortening

1 C. powdered sugar

1 C. white sugar

2 t. vanilla

4 1/2 C. flour

1 t. cream of tartar

1 t. baking soda

Mix well. Roll into small balls. Place on cookie sheet (I used parchment paper). Flatten with a glass (bottom side) that has been dipped in white sugar (one dip for each cookie) Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees or until lightly browned. I had to bake them between 12- 15 min.

Also be sure to mix well from the bottom of the bowl too. I didn't and the last batch was very soft and spread too much.

Soushi, what a beautiful sentiment! I find it disturbing when I read or hear that people are "sick of Christmas" and it's not even Halloween yet. Always keep in mind whose birthday it is!

After the Thanksgiving dry runs, casseroles, dinner and leftovers, I am happy to return to my light dinner dishes. Hubby will get his annual steak for Christmas and while he's eating that, I will have my retreat in the iTunes store!

Get your flu shot...because I didn't.

Chocolate pound cake, Mexican Wedding Cookies, White chocolate vanilla pretzels, seven layer cookies, and Fantasy Fudge. I make trays of these for close friend's Christmas presents.

On Christmas Day we'll do Roast, twice baked potatoes, tomato pie (cheese, tomatoes, and Italian spices), salad, and chocolate pound cake with homemade whipped cream drizzled with kahlua.

Re: What is cooking at your house this December?

Hi everyone - LOVE to see some new names here - keep on coming back!!!

I have done very little cooking. Did make a big pot of stew yesterday and today - strange as this may seem - ALL the meat is gone. Lots of onions and carrots left but that is that. Not happy about that as I know it will not get eaten that way. LOL. Tonight? Not sure as it has been another extrememly taxing and trying day which started hours ago. Sigh.

We have had rain ALL DAY long and unfortunately lots of wrecks and mud slides.

Take care everyone. Soushi, have not stopped at TJs in quite a spell - they never seem to have the VEggie Bird Nests any more - need to go back and check again.

Re: What is cooking at your house this December?

Good Morning all,

I'm up early this morning. Sun isn't even up here yet. Looks like it will be a cloudy day again. And it will be a busy one for me. Heading to Bible study brunch this morning, then MahJong this afternoon.

Laying awake this morning thinking of all I have to do next week. It will be so full! Hate when that happens.

I cooked a beef roast in the pressure cooking last night for dinner. Browned it first, then added sliced onion (yes, Winifred) a bay leaf, salt and pepper, water. Turned out quite good. Also boiled Yukon gold potatoes, with skins on. Had a salad. Simple but DH raved about it. Think he was just hungry for some simple home cooking.

I have chicken breast thawed for tonight. Not sure what it will be. Saw a recipe for brown sugar chicken that looked good. Question: why can't you find bone in, skin on, chicken breast? I think they have much better flavor.

Oh, forgot, I chopped up leftover turkey in my food processer, and make salad with it. I put too much pepper in it and didn't know how to fix it. Checked the internet and found you could add lemon or lime juice. I had bottled lime juice...it worked!

Going for a warm up on my coffee.

Best to all, enjoy the day and please post here!

Re: What is cooking at your house this December?

Morning all, happy to "see" everyone joining in!

Thanx to Sushi for starting us off for December & a very good start it is.

Thinking about the cookies I might (lol) make this year, seems like there's not enough time to get it all done, what with the babysitting, etc, anyway of course the eggnog will get done, plan to make 3 batches, (gallons) so that may have to suffice for the neighbors, I think they'd rather have that anyway.

Supper last nite was leftovers, tonite will be pork chops & if it stays mild will do them on the grill, tomorrow nite out with the "girls" for buffet at the casino, big crab leg affair.

Winifred you hang in there & don't overdo, let them fend for themselves for awhile, but glad you're getting some rain, hope it's not too much, I know feast or famine!

Well got to get my act together, shop the sales & meeting tonite to make our annual "plea" for reduced real estate taxes, it really does work some years, but we must keep doing it every year, our local politicians sponsor a seminar yearly to help us appeal or maybe they're just humoring us lol

Preds Thanx again for the pix, love 'em

Take Care All & come on back
