When I was a little kid back in the dark ages of the 1950's, my mom would cut up raw chicken & singe off the pin feathers over the open flame of our gas range before she made fried chicken.  Burning feathers stunk, but her fried chicken was great!

Thanks!  I hope it doesn't bust all over his stove top.

That is so funny.  When my husband and I first married, we lived in a rent house with gas appliances.  First, my mom had me scared to death of gas.  She said not to not let the tank get less than 25%.  I'd go out every day and look at the gauge.  When it got down to 25% I wanted to "go home" till DH had it filled.  I think I was afraid of leaks...don't remember now what it was.  It was a 200 gallon tank tho lol  Then there was the time I  blew myself up by turning on the oven but forgetting to light the pilot light.  10 minutes later, I remembered to light it and promptly blew myself across the kitchen when I struck the match.  DH was on the phone in the other room and thru the door, saw me flying backwards.  We used to grill hotdogs over the stove flame.  Souped up Minute Rice and hot dogs was a meal we ate a lot Smiley Happy

That never happened.  I don' know if hotdogs are different now or maybe we didn't get them hot enough for them to ooze grease.

I've seen that done on the food shows--I've never had a gas stove but I use my outdoor grill to char veggies--not eggplant tho--yuck!!
