Ice cream. A cheese plate to serve before cake?

Strawberries- maybe combined with some that are chocolate covered.

A toast with Prosecco maybe?

It's dessert, so no other food.

For such an occasion, I do buy an assorted cut fruit platter from my local supermarket.  Always a big hit in my house.

i would also serve a fruit salad OR a cheese/fruit tray with some crackers.

Good quality vanilla ice cream. With fresh strawberries or mixed berries.

I've decided to make the death by chocolate layer cake and have a good vanilla ice cream to offer with it. I'll also make strawberries dipped in dark chocolate, and some in white for anyone like me who can't eat chocolate.  I also plan on having nuts and some plain cookies like shortbread.  I'm sure that's enough, but I'm also sure I'll add a couple of things as I go along.. that always seems to happen somehow.

JMO but I find "death by chocolate cake" extremely decadent (very sweet) so more "sweets" would be overkill -- from my perspective.   A fruit tray or fruit platter would be sufficient for a little extra.

My bday is July so can I put my order in now for that delicious cake😉 for my special day! Nothing better than homemade ... you're a good friend.
