What else to serve besides the birthday cake?

I'm having my BFF and her husband on Saturday evening to celebrate her birthday. Very low key, just cake, coffee and tea. There will be eight of us all together. I told her I'd bake any cake she wanted - she requested "anything chocolate". It will be after dinner. I'm just wondering what else I should serve - chips? nuts?

I'd love a couple of suggestions, as I think I'm overlooking the obvious.

some fruit is what I would add, grapes or berries

How about miniature pastries ( cream puffs, eclairs, etc. ) that can be accompanied by melted chocolate to be scooped as needed !

I think cake is enough, and it's very kind of you, but ice cream is a good addition if you think more is necessary.

@house_cat If it's only for birthday cake and beverages after dinner if you want any add on I would vote for whipped cream or vanilla ice cream to go with chocolate cake.

The stawberries idea someone else mentioned to surround the cake also sound good.

You are always doing something nice for people and I can tell you are quite comfortable with producing excellent food because you care about it and the people you cook for.

So don't obsess over it; you have nailed it.
