Just put it in with an evelope of onion soup mix. It takes about 7 hours and is delicious. Then I just make 2 or 3 of our favorite side dishes.

If it was just DH and me, I'd probably do pretty much what I do now, except in smaller quantities. A smaller turkey, not the 20+ pounders we do now. Most of my dishes are easily halved or even quartered in size. Only one dessert with a small plate of cookies (DH has to have his cookies). A bottle of wine. And lit candles on the table. I would still want to make a special dinner and I know that DH would be hurt if I did not bother.
I don't know that it's ever been just DH and me for Thanksgiving in the almost-44 years we've been married.

Nomar - I have always had a small ...small family and at times my husband had to work so I home alone for part of the day or most of the day. I had to learn, it is just one day...you can make it...don't be sad. I try to stop the thoughts of sadness or missing out on something as soon as the thought enters my head. I also try and not watch the family movies cause even though the story is good it can make you feel down.

I sometimes fix the whole deal- we like it and the left overs. I have also done a chicken instead of turkey and as someone else said cornish game hens w/wild rice a great dessert it is wonderful. Last year we decided to have lobster tails baked potatoe asparagus crusty french bread and cheesecake! It was awesome. Do WHATEVER you desire ![]()

What does your husband want for Thanksgiving, does he have a preference?

If hubby and I were alone on Thanksgiving, we would probably go out. But if I decided to make dinner at home; I'd make whatever he asked me to make. Turkey is not his favorite meal. He would probably ask for fried chicken and mac & cheese and strawberry shortcake for dessert. That's what he always asks for on his birthday.

Even if we go out for Thanksgiving dinner, I usually buy a turkey while they're on sale and cook it soon after Thanksgiving. No "big holiday meal" stress and mess, but we really like turkey and all the wonderful things we make from the leftovers. Since it's just DH and me at home, we'll freeze some packets of turkey to use later.
