Re: What cooking this december?

It's pretty cold here (5*F but feels like -7*), and that's a little warm up from when I first got up this morning.

DS and the grandkids are still coming this afternoon.  Our other DS might come too.  He hasn't decided.  He got snow last night and is waiting to see if the roads will be cleared.  I hope he can make it but safety first.  I'm making breakfast for dinner.  The kids like that.

Re: What cooking this december?

Hot dogs and macaroni salad.  More like summer food, than a comfort meal with all our snow!  We got nearly 7 inches.  I think I'm ready for a cup of hot chocolate.  With marshmallows!

Re: What cooking this december?

Good morning everyone. Cold and its our first day with snow. We only got a couple inches of snow yesterday. Mini muffins for breakfast yestauday morning and this morning. We ordered food satauday night. I had leftovers for lunch yesterday. Ria had to go to work yestauday to get 70 buses cleaned off. So we didn't eat with Anna until last night. We had ordered lobsters on sale for Christmas. Anna was going to stuff them and frezze them for Christmas eve. But when lobsters were delivered they were already cooked. So Anna cleaned them and served lobster meat with dinner. Broccoli rabe, oven roasted potatoes, mushrooms, artichokes and I don't remember what else. For tonight's dinner I'm making peach French toast. I finally finished my Christmas shopping for ria yesterday. There was a mass shooting right here in Providence Rhode Island yestauday at brown University. So sad. Have a great day everyone.

Re: What cooking this december?

Planned my menu for Christmas dinner. Both DDs will be home so dinner will be me, DH, DDs, SIL and BIL, 6 people in total.  We always have a beef tenderloin.  I ordered that from the butcher on Friday. Will pick up Christmas Eve.  This year we decided to order some sides from our local gourmet grocery store.  I ordered scalloped potatoes and brussel sprouts with balsamic and pancetta.  I will pick those up on Christmas Eve as well.  DH will make a caesar salad and SIL will bring rolls.  Youngest DD and I will be making a chocolate ganache tart for dessert.  I will pick up some nibbles to have before dinner- pretzels, chex mix etc. We used to do a charcuterie board before dinner but no one ate much of it so now my immediate family has one for dinner on Christmas Eve.

Re: What cooking this December?

@ninjawife - is your table big enough to add two more guests?  Your Christmas dinner sounds fantastic!  Beef and Brussels sprouts are right up,our alley!

It's another cold one here but a crazy weather week ahead.  We started out with-2F during the wee hours this morning but will be climbing to the high 40's* by Thursday.  Then a nosedive on Friday followed by another warmup for Christmas week.

I have the boneless pork loin slow cooking.  That will be an all day thing.  Once it's done I'll divide it up and vacuum seal it.  Some will be for our family get together on Christmas Eve and some will be saved for future meals.  Our DD and DSIL are hosting Christmas Eve.  Our food is always casual, a plate in our laps.  DD, DDIL, and I all have our assignments.  I'll do most of it, I don't mind at all.  DD works next to a Nothin' But Bundt.  She talked about ordering a cake but found out it was going to cost $80!  I told her it wasn't necessary anyway.  She's providing cheesecake bites and I'm getting a cookie tray from Costco.  That's more than enough dessert and there will be leftovers for someone to take to work.

There's bacon left from yesterday so DH and I will have BLT  lettuce wraps with pork rinds and salsa for lunch.  I'll probably include a few kalamata olives and mini peppers.  He doesn't like either.
