We have a baker in town who is just starting her business. She specializes in French butter pastries - croissants, brioche, home made Pop Tarts, lots of great stuff.
BUT - she doesn't have a store. Her Pop Tarts are sold on Fridays and Saturdays at a local coffee shop...she is sometimes at farmers markets...it varies. She generally sells out of her products within the first hour they arrive.
I bought a vanilla poached pear almond tarte with ginger creme anglaise. Oick ups had to be made on Wednesday between 4P-7P at an empty store they were using for a pop-up location.
I felt like I was chasing down drugs...she called people who pre-ordered with the time & location for the pick up...it was like a great big scavenger hunt.
Everyone loved it...I wanted to BATHE in the creme anglaise...

I also live in the Buffalo area, so this sounds great. The pear thing doesn't appeal to me, but the homemade Pop Tarts sure due. Wish she'd open a store so I could try her items.

The Pop Tarts are fantastic...I got one almond one and another blueberry lemon one...but I got to the farmers market at 8AM sharp...the line was forming behind me!
They have written about her company, Butter Block, in the News.

It sounds like maybe she's trying to dodge inspectors and doesn't have the necessary licenses to produce and sell food products. I'd hesitate to eat food made at an unknown location by unknown workers. Who do you contact if she poisons you? You don't even know if what you buy is produced under sanitary conditions.

Sounds and looks wonderful.
@Kachina624 fill that glass to half full.
I buy tamales out of the parking lot at Walmart.

No. She cooks in a commercial kitchen run by a neighborhood co-op group. It's very well known and used by many of the farmers market vendors.
The coffee houses and restaurants who buy from her know that her kitchen is certified and inspected.
All above board!

It's very common nowadays to have pop-up restaurants. It's all very above-board.

When I lived in Southern California I used to buy tamales made by the parking lot attendant at the hospital where I worked. They were great!

I'm sort of picky about the source of my food and certainly would never buy anything in a parking lot. Why do you think communities have health departments and inspections? For your protection.

terrier, that sounds devine! With a name like Butter Block, how can it be bad!
My fish guy is like that. He goes fishing in Maine and Canada Sunday - Wednesday, and Friday and Saturday he sells his goods out of his truck in a metro parking lot.
How are you? How is Psycho Matt? I'm still working on my push ups. I can't do a full one yet, but my upper body is sculpted!
