@BirkiLady wrote:@Goodie2shoes You made so much sense as a diabetic . . . until I read the word Keto. Be very careful on the diet. It's dangerous on-term.
Wherever you got that info, you've been misledor misinformed. I've been living a healthy keto lifestyle for over 2.5 yrs. and am in the best health of my life - down 150 pounds and maintaining by staying on plan, reversed insulin resistance, reversed pre diabetes, no longer have painful joints, have better cognition, am sleeping better, have significantly reduced tinnitus, have more flexibility and stamina, coming off BP meds.

I'm not much of a snacker. If I do need something, it is usually cottage cheese, dark chocolate or nuts and seeds.
My pantry normally has potato chips, corn chips, salsa, nuts, pretzels, peanutbutter filed crackers. Biscotti, candy, Nutella, popcorn and probably some more stuff that I forgot about. My Grands head straight for the pantry when they visit....and they often take some goodies home with them.
My DH makes and eats hard boiled eggs and rolled up deli ham slices. He also eats ice cream every night.

My husband is the snacker; he likes graham crackers with peanut butter, townhouse crackers with cheddar cheese, ginger snaps, pudding, jello, mixed nuts, popcorn, or Cheetos. An occasional apple is fine too.
I have to work very hard on not snacking, as my snack tastes run solely and specifically to cake, cookies, and chips, none of which are regularly brought into this house.

I do everything in moderation so I don't deprive myself. I love a Pop-Tart, Oatmeal cookies, pudding and frozen fruit bars for deserts. My dry snacks are Skinny Pop popcorn, nuts, graham crackers and cheese sticks. I only eat local seasonal fruit so it's pretty boring right now. My guiltiest pleasures are my homemade Martinis, Bourbon's on the rocks, Blue Cheese stuffed Olives, Wisconsin cheese spreads on crackers and Feta on Pita. Okay... I'm salivating. I better stop..Ha!

Are eggs good for us now? I thought there was a big deal about the cholesterol.
I am trying to make changes to snacks and chose healthy ones. I just bought some carrot slices, fruit, yogurt and I guess eggs. I am waiting to get a partial on the bottom of my mouth so now I only have two teeth down there. So lovely to be aging. I look like a vampire with the opposite two teeth -- mine on the bottom. lol

I typically snack on Fresh Fruit (Apples and Pears mostly), Dried Fruit (Raisins, Apricots, Figs), Peanut Butter, Hummus with Pita crackers or a Vegetable (Carrots, Broccoli, Red Pepper), Cheese. If I want something crunchy, I like Crispy Chick Peas (assorted flavors), or Inner Peas (from Trader Joe's).

I always have fresh fruit, cottage cheese, saltines, Ritz, and cheese. We do have peanut butter but it's for DH unless I want a peanut butter cracker.
I also keep broccoli and cauliflower for salads and I prefer that with a tiny bit of cottage cheese.

My BF lost 3/4 of his pancreas 2020 and is on an insulin pump now. He had to have hernia surgery for multiples that popped up around his incision
The surgeon gave him a diet to "lower" his A1C to lower than 7 prior to surgery.
No fruits, sugar, desserts, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, beans, sodas, alcohol, juice, cereal, oatmeal, corn, sweets, pastries, artificial sweeteners, no processed foods, no milk or yogurt.
Healthy fats in moderation - nuts, nut butters (no additional sugar) (no peanut butter),avocados, olives, eggs or cheese. Organic meat...one serving a day and all other vegetables not excluded above.. For the most part he stuck to it abd it worked.
His diabetes educator said it was a good diet, but not realistic long term.

@Sooner Our best snack cheat is a jar of dill pickles. When we need a salty snack, they are great and about as lo cal as you can get. But we also have cheese, Wasa bread, potato chips, Tostitos, mixed nuts, oranges, bananas and - always CHOCOLATE! You never know who is going to drop in. (That's what we keep telling ourselves...)

I snack on black olives, diced tomatoes, green beans, blueberry yogurt, ricotta cheese, tortilla chips, Dove dark chocolate squares, canned sliced peaches, canned pears, & Cheezit crackers.
My snacking goes in cycles.
