FWIW, ChiliPepper, I totally understand.  It's difficult to not have such a visceral response when somebody is that profoundly aggravating!  Smiley Wink

Hi Mrs G!

I also watch 'The Kitchen' and 'The Chew' and enjoy both - with caveats (of course).

On 'The Kitchen' I simply cannot stomach Sunny Anderson.  When I first started watching I quit once because she was on it.   But i decided I wanted to watch the show so I just FF through segments that are Sunny-intensive.   She just rattles me to the nth degree - the screaminess and the FEED ME!!!   She reminds me of that plant on 'Little Shop of Horrors'.   Always screaming to be fed and always me me me me me.  ugh.  (sorry - rant over)

On 'The Chew' I have watched it since it began but Daphne Oz is the one who annoys me to the nth degree.  She's also very 'I know everything' and interrupty.    She just angers me.   So, I also FF through her segments or if it gets too much with her talking over everybody and that laugh of hers - I can only describe as a GUFFAW sets my teeth on edge.

I know Michael Symon also has a bit of an annoying laugh.  But he's sweet and fun and not obnoxious.  Plus he doesn't do it a zillion times a show so I can deal.  Smiley Happy   I always liked him anyway and he was my pick on the first season of 'Next Iron Chef' from the beginning.  Smiley Happy

Anyway, there are often lots of great tips on both shows.

@chickenbutt ITA.  Just like her father, both annoying.

Re: What Cooking Show Do You Learn Most From?

Hands down, it's Ina for me. I like her relaxed style and I like that I don't have to go to the store for 50 ingredients if I want to make a recipe. I also like Martha Stewart and Sara Moulton.

I loved Alton Brown's Good Eats. Not only did he tell you what to do, but he also told you why you should do it that way. I learned so much from watching that show.

Unfortunately, I don't watch Food Network at all anymore, not even Ina. I follow Ina through her cookbooks and have all of them. I've switched over to CREATE on PBS and now watch America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country. I also like Martha Bakes and I really enjoy watching Kevin Dundon's Back to Basics show.

We are avid BBQers and both DH and I watch Steven Raichlen on CREATE, too. I have several of his cookbooks and we have learned quite a  bit about smokers and smoking by watching him.

My favorite chef is Tyler Florence. I loved to watch his show "Tyler's Ultimate" from many years ago. I have one of his cookbooks, and EVERY recipe I've made has been GREAT!

Re: What Cooking Show Do You Learn Most From?

I have kept several recipes from the Martha Stewart show. I liked her simpler recipes. She also, had this Italian chef on her show - I kept several of his recipes too. She could get kinda complicated sometimes - I did not copy and save those recipes - as, I don't like to get too involved with my cooking. She always seemed to have few good kitchen or cooking tips, along with her "it's a good thing". I still use ideas of hers even to this day in cooking and in the kitchen.

Also, there was a BBQ show that featured bbq from different areas of the country. - my husband used to watch that and picked up a few tips from that - he does love his bbq.

I have given up on the Food Network.  I don't watch any cooking shows but I do take cooking classes at our local co-op a few times a year.  Taking a Thai class next week.

Thai Juan On then!  LOL!!!!

Re: What Cooking Show Do You Learn Most From?

I am surprised at how many people, like me, are simply sick of screaming.  I think that got started mostly with Oprah didn't it?  She screams, and her audience screams, and so many ofl the women on tv scream.

It's fun to talk about the shows and likes and dislikes!  Thanks for the fun and the info!
