Re: What Are Some of Your Easy No-Cook Meals?

@Desertdi How I would love a lunch with you!  I'll bring the sardines (mustard? curry? lemon? spicy?) and a salad and you bring the crackers!!!

Probably a dumb question, but is there a difference in taste/texture of cottage cheese between brands?

I like what I get in a specific restaurant but when I buy it at the grocery store, it seems runny and not as good...

@Mom2Dogs

Huh.  I don't think I've ever had cottage cheese in a restaurant.

However .... I've always wondered if the types of cottage cheese vary by manufacturer .... small curd or large curd (??), creamed, chives or pineapple ....

Question for anyone who might know ... are the small curd and large curd basically the same, except for size of curd?  I've never understood why it would matter.

@Mom2Dogs Yes yes yes!  So many differences.  Some are thicker and sticky, some not so much.  I like Daisy and Lactaid best.

There are differences in brands, and regardless of brand, I stir the contents well after removing the plastic seal.  My husband prefers large curd cottage cheese which never seems to be as runny.

@Mom2Dogs   I personally do not see a difference in brands regarding the taste.  Texture sometimes.

From my experience, runny cottage cheese is going bad to no good.  You probably purchased one near or past the expiration date.  Or one that was near heat or not refridgerated properly.  That happened to me once.  Took back to store & manager got me another, opened in front of me so I could check for myself.

I have never ever seen cottage cheese on the menu at a restaurant & I'm from a cottage cheese eating state!  Some diners have it on their menu......cottage cheese & prunes as a breakfast/lunch item.

@Tinkrbl44   I'm from Philly so I tend to stick to their brand I grew up on,  Philadelphia Cottage Cheese.  Sometimes the curds are small, medium & large.  I  never paid much attention until you mentioned it. Smiley LOL

The cottage cheese is served with fruit and a fruit platter and also is a side dish to meals...this is served in several restaurants in my area.

Ours is different sandwiches, whatever we can find. Usually chicken salad, pimento cheese, always have cucumbers and tomatoes in the fridge.

I have never thought of putting cottage cheese with tomatoes. I'd have to think about that.Woman Very Happy

Speaking of cottage cheese...I love cottage cheese and fresh  tomatoes with a very small shake of garllic powder and teeny tiny bit of salt. I also love it with fresh pineapple chunks or canned peaches.

One no cook meal meal for me is a ham, spinach dip and onion sandwich on pumpernickle or rye with chips or the like. I love using spinach dip as a spread.

Re: What Are Some of Your Easy No-Cook Meals?

Wrap:  low carb whole wheat small tortilla. Throw on a slice of provolone (or whatever cheese you like - I am vegetarian). Put Inglehoffer whole grain mustard on cheese.

Add shredded lettuce, purple cabbage, diced tomatoes, diced cucumber, diced celery, diced onion. Add a dab of rice vinegar & olive oil. Roll & toothpick into wrap.

Sandwich:  Rye bread - toast one slice (or half) leave the other slice or half soft. Add a slice of provolone (or other cheese).

Inglehoffer whole grain mustard, shredded lettuce & purple cabbage. The textural taste of crunchy & soft is so good!

Re: What Are Some of Your Easy No-Cook Meals?

Bakery bread - either sourdough or sprouted grain, topped with cheese and left over sliced tomato and toasted open-face in the toaster oven. Sometimes I use Wasa crackers instead of bread.

Oh, I guess that's cooking.

slices of fresh pears in greek yogurt

Chocolate........cheese puffs........yes, they have been a meal at times.
