Wegman's (Is it Just Mine...?)

....That recently renovated the entire middle of the store into a state store? That means, they took away a bunch of items & brands they used to sell, which I used to get!

But for certain things, it's still my favorite store!

I love Wegmans. I don't go as often as I like and have to go to a neighboring state. it's like the Disney World of Supermarkets! That's my description of it. Love that place.

Re: Wegman's (Is it Just Mine...?)

There is no Wegman's in my area, so when I do travel to other parts of my state (Geneva, Rochester and other NYS locations), my first stop is usually at Wegman's.  It's an adventure for sure.  I went to the flagship store many years ago and spent three hours just walking aroung looking at everything.  We have Stew Leonard's down here on LI and Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, but nothing compares to Wegman's.

Re: Wegman's (Is it Just Mine...?)

@Harpa , my Wegman's (in PA.) did that a couple years ago. I don't get it, but it must be a big seller for them. My Wegman's is within a mile on either side of 2 beer  stores and across the street from the state store. Guess people like their booze. In the beginning it was just a couple of shelves in the back with beer, then, a wine bottle machine and now a few aisles of wine and beer.  I'm with you, I miss the items that they've taken away. They had really nice decorative things and took out the maagazines except for what they have at the checkouts. Now it's just like other grocery stores.

I did write to them expressing my disappointment. (Was I complaining...?)  I just felt they should know, because the other shoppers were saying the same things.

I'm in PA, too, but found Weg's when I lived in NY.

I forgot to mention that they also did away with the area where they had potato salads, mac. salads, etc.  and other precooked items where you could pick meat  or poultry and  sides. The salads now are in 1 lb. or 3 lb. containers and the dinners are prepackaged , too, but you can't choose from a variety of sides. You have to take what's already in the package. That's progress, I guess.

Re: Wegman's (Is it Just Mine...?)

The store here was built with a gigantic wine store at one end, and a fabulous walk-in beer cooler (if you like beer it's a dream).

In the last year or so, though, there was a store re-arrangement, and the magazines went away.  Most of the other home furnishings and kitchen implement things remain, thankfully.

People were flummoxed at the changes, so Wegmans stationed employees inside the entrance, to hand out store maps showing the former and now new merchandise locations.  Love Wegmans.  Best store ever.

@Harpa

I don't know what a 'State Store' is....by reading another post...is it liquor and wine?

NYS prohibits grocery stores or convenience stores from selling true wines and liquors.  You must go to a licensed Liquor Store.

My 2 Wegman's has not changed.

I believe that was done due to covid precautions, although those salads went into big containers before.

My Wegman's in northern NJ is relatively new. About 3 years. No reorganization there yet.  This store has the liquor attached to one end, and it's techinically a seperate entity. Privately owned, but still accessible through Wegman's.

@Harpa Not sure what you mean by a state store?

Wegman's is my favorite store - but the prices on their fresh items like meat and fish are very high.

@RespectLife

I thought state store (which is what we do call them here in PA, since they have to be licensed by the state) sounded better than booze joint.

The marquee signs on the state stores usually say Wine & Spirits.
