Re: WHAT'S COOKING AT YOUR HOUSE THIS MARCH 2019?

@Winifred, I am from NC and still here. In my area the slaw was not sweetened with any sort of sweetener. Now it is all sweet if you purchase it and for most of the homemade also. My mom made hers the way you describe. Did you have sugar in yours. We also did not use sugar in cornbread.Smiley Surprised

Tiny 2 am delighted you  stopped by with that info. NO sugar in most anything except cakes.I I love the tartness of that slaw. Yours sounds very good! Did not think anyone would recognize that slaw - I LOVE it. The slaw you buy now is not my favorite at all. Been many many years since I lived in NC - but my memories are great. Grew up in Raleigh and my grandparents lived across from the NC Fair Buildings - they had 100 acres. I went back perhaps 15 years ago for the first time in 50 years. Their property is divided up, a Shell station right where their home was, there is an equipment company there - Poole Equipment, condos in back and so on. Broke my heart as I spent a lot of time there and that is the property I learned to drive on. Never hit anything so that was good. I had a British grandmother and NC native grandfather - he worked on the Panama Canal and that is how he met her. Great memories. Doubt if I will get back again as I am nearer to 100 than any other age now Sigh. My Dad was CAreer Army and after WWII, we started moving around. Bless him, he fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam - a great man. Again, thanks for sharing that slaw.

OMG was that ever good.had to be the best lasagna i have ever eatten, today she made eggrolls that are on the idea of south western eggrolls you get at chilis as an appitizer.but hers are bigger and better. she puts chicken, spinich, red peppers, black beans, moneryjack cheese and taco seasoning. im making myself hungry just talking about it. oh and i noticed our fish tank this morning had baby fish swmming around. hope everyone has a great week.

Sunday was hamburgers and salad.  Last night, leftover pasta for DH and salad, a baby Spring greens and mayo on twenty-one grain bread sandwich, love these sandwiches.  I also ate almost two oranges.  For the last two weekends, the freebie items has been a bag of oranges.  I usually don't eat them as they have given me heartburn in the past, but decided to last night as they were beginning to go bad, and they were delicious.  I took a few Digest Assure and no heartburn, so will continue to eat them.

Tonight will be ground beef tacos since DH brought home a boatful when I asked for some for hamburgers, and because I have a container of refried beans that I made a few days ago that wouldn't fit into the freezer with the other eight, so don't want them to go bad.

Many times, I have only had them in a dish with cheese, some Korean chili powder, and extra virgin olive oil drizzled over then microwaved until the cheese melts.  When I make meat tacos for DH with leftover grilled meat, I never eat them, only beans and grilled tortilla.

@hellie jo   Raining here today after so much nice weather the past week, so have to wait another week for warm weather, then it is here to stay.

Happy Birthday to your son.  I havn't been with DD for her birthday in about five years, ever since she went away to college, so we celebrate it when she comes for Christmas.

[ Edited ]

Last night I made nachos for myself and tacos for DH.  I hadn't eaten since 7PM the night before due to having a blood panel yesterday and didn't get there until 1:30, so by 3:30, I began preparing the meat, etc. and by 4:00 I was eating, lol.  I later ate two small oranges while DH ate his tacos.

I think tonight will be fried fish, I fry it in cornstarch so it has the lightest, crispy crust, with chimichurri sauce and peas, I use frozen petite.

Tomorrow night DH is going to Costco, so will give him leftover pasta or make a new one as he will be home later and I long ago gave up cooking dinner at 9:00, did this until DD came along, then I insisted he be home to at least tuck her in as she never saw him until Sundays, crazy, but when no children are around, one can keep any schedule one likes.
