Re: Vitamix question to those who have one

Although it makes wonderful smoothies, the Vitamix is far more than just a smoothie machine. There are so many wonderful things you can make... nut butters, hummus, frozen desserts, coconut butter, almond milk, sauces, soups. I wouldn't be without a Vitamix.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Vitamix. . .wouldn't trade it!! And with spring/summer here, I use it 4-5 times a day. . .smoothies, cold soups, cold drinks, etc. I have had a Ninja and others, but there is no comparison. AND also, it is MADE in USA!!!!!

Little goes to waste at my house. I peel and chop broccoli stems into smaller pieces, freeze them and put them in smoothies. Also stems from greens get used this way. I figure they have more fiber than ice and make the smoothie just as cold, so why not?

great idea

we make a lot of soups with ours -- also smoothies. I'd buy one again!

Re: Vitamix question to those who have one

I seem to be the minority here. I do not use mine often. I find it is difficult to clean (especially after making peanut butter). I do not care for the soup it makes (frothy). I make peanut butter about once a month - that is about all I use it for. If you like smoothies for breakfast every day (I don't) it would probably be good for you. I do not use it enough to justify the price.

I have the 5200. If you have anyone in the family that has to deal with an illness, or oral problems-it is helpful. Making healthy meal replacement smoothies and soups can be a real help.

Vegetarian diets, cleanses, raw diets, etc. are a good job for the Vitamix. As someone else mentioned, the dry container can grind flour-great for gluten free meals.

But, if you don't use it-it's not worth it.

A slim silicone spatula like this one can make removing nut butters from your Vitamix container much easier.

To de-froth soup (or a smoothie) at the end of the processing time, just set the machine on variable speed 1 and then gradually increase the speed just until a small vortex forms in the center of the soup or smoothie. The bubbles/froth will be sucked into the vortex and eliminated. It usually only takes a minute or so to get rid of even the worst froth.

I have my Mom's that must be 35-40 years old. It works as well today as the day she received it and has been used often.
