Vitamix Question

Could someone tell me how the pulse control works on the Vitamix Elite that was a TSV a few months ago. I can't find the DVD that came with it. I am trying a recipe in the book and put the Variable Speed where it told me to, then pushed the pulse button, but it did not pulse. The speed seemed to stay the same. Not sure what I am doing wrong. thanks!
