Lock and Lock is notorious for poor customer service, hard to get a hold of, have to send back the broken part, and a long wait for replacement. Too much hassle for what the products costs, and that is what they bank on, that you won't want to go to the expense and trouble to get the piece replaced.
I have much older lock and lock, and it is so much better made than the new stuff. Many people say the quality is still the same as years ago, but is absolutely is not. Plastic is thinner, locking tabs are not as strong, silicone seals smaller (thinner) and most pieces now DO LEAK!!!! My old ones never have.
I purchased quite a bit back in the day when better made, but some of the bigger pieces, I wish I had purchased many more.

I bought a set.....a LARGE set.....back in the days, over 13 years ago, and they had microwave sensor lids, that change from blue to clear when the contents were hot thru and thru, and the lids all had tabs with holes in them that attached by tabs on the containers..water tight...and VERY long lasting.....I have only gotten rid of the most used ones that finally pitted, but still have a lot of the smaller containers. They also had little divider inserts that you could..or not use.. as well.....
I agree that now, then are not the same, or water tight...but must say that I have NEVER had a tab on the lids to break off....I wish they would go back to the old tab to tab system.....AND, I will say that the round bowls are the worse for not sealing air tight/water tight......
I will also say, I have some that the tabs will not close at all, and can only close some of the tabs on the container.....

I love L&L and have had very few problems with breakage, considering that they are plastic.
I think that L&L's old policy where all you had to do was call them, give them the model number, and they would send a replacement no questions asked, no charge, and no requirement to send back the defective part is what got them into trouble. I think they were overwhelmed with legitimate and probably not legitimate requests.
Now I think what you should do is just deal with QVC for a return or exchange or follow the company's instructions.
But none of this detracts from the usefulness and durability of the product. I consider it to be the best plastic storage line out there.

Why would anyone accept an email photo of damage?
Their return policy sounds fine to me.

This is true of so many products today, quality is not there, yet we pay more.

I love lock and lock. Even though there are some copy cats with similar products on the Q I would not buy their's. I've only had a very few lids that did not lock secure and they are usually the ones that you just push down to lock like the bins and taller containers.

I have so many with only three tabs! mostly the round ones..They are still ok to use, but don't make the mistake of thinking they are watertight any more!
I should start to call my lock n lock's the "tripod" collection!

I don't know, I just opened my set of cast iron enamel cookware (Le Creuset knock off) from Shop HQ ..oops EVINE LIVE, and told them one of the saucepans had a chip out of the side, and they didn't even question it- they are sending a new one out to me, I didn't have to provide a photo OR send the damaged one back- which is nice cause its REALLY heavy-
Now THAT is customer service! and believe me, those pans were a lot more expensive than a lock n lock lid....

As I posted earlier, I suspect that L&L was inundated with replacement calls. And that expense adds up.
Plus, I might expect a bit more liberal response when I've spent big bucks on something; not so much when we're talking plastic storageware that by definition is more likely to break than is a cast iron enamel pot and that is relatively quite inexpensive per piece.

Asking you to return the lid is okay, but they should provide a postage-paid label. Sometimes a manufacturer will accept a photo instead - I've done it with a table fan and a shelving unit - but other times they want the item back mainly so they can remove it from circulation - if it were a safety issue for example, or so the item can't be presented over-and-over for multiple no-charge replacements.
