I have a basic Black and Decker toaster oven. I was thinking of getting a combo one since I don't really use my oven much(don't ask)!i've been looking at a Black and Decker one that is digital and sells for $80 on Amazon. Does anyone have one? Do you actually use it for baking and broiling and do you like it? TIA

Re: Toaster/Convection Ovens

I have had a cuisinart one for past five years and like it very much. I cook fish, pork tenderloin and reheat things in it. Also great for frozen bread and rolls. Our oven takes too long to heat up so this is a great option. Just the two of us, so this works out well. Many rave about the Breville but it is pricey. If you do frozen pizza, check on dimensions of the oven cavity as many new ones can handle 13 inch pizza. It is a great time saver and keeps kitchen cooler in summer months. Only negative is that it does take up counter space.

Re: Toaster/Convection Ovens

I have a Breville Smart Oven and love it. It can easily handle a 13" pizza. I generally use one of my Emile Henry pizza stones in it. They are 10½" in diameter, but that works for me, as I usually make 8" pizzas. If doing a larger one, I have the 14" EH pan, and do it outside on either the regular grill or the Egg.

Does an excellent job with cookies, breads, frozen croissants and the like. In December when Amex had their annual point sale, I got three more for DD, DS & DSIL. I like free.

Footprint really isn't that much more than a regular toaster oven, and FAR more useful.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll do a little research on a couple of different brands before I decide to purchase one.

Re: Toaster/Convection Ovens

I have a Calphalon convection oven that I LOVE. I did a lot of research. It seemed like it was mostly all about a brand called Breville and the Calphalon XL that I purchased.

There were some problems reported from the Breville one at the time that were troubling and that was one main reason I chose the Calphalon. I could not possibly be more pleased.

It only holds up to 9x13, so it's not gigantic. But it's big enough for us. Unlike the others, I have had no problems with excessive heating on the outside of the unit to cause problems on counters. It is very well built and durable. It's been so nice because I can make practically anything that I would do in the oven (not a 20lb turkey or anything) in less time, using less electricity, and with a lower temp.

Re: Toaster/Convection Ovens

Questions for the Breville & owner Calaphon XL owners....

Does the outside or the underneath of the ovens get hot?

Can you make regular toast just as quickly as a toaster.

I have been wanting a Convection/Toaster oven for over a year - actually have got rid of my microwave - its been about 6 months.

eta...... sorry OP not trying to hijack post - glad you got some great responses

Re: Toaster/Convection Ovens

I have a non-digital Black & Decker combo toaster/convection oven and really love it! I use it for everything, outside of my microwave stuff.

Since it's just me, I never turn the regular oven on, which saves electricity and keeps my apartment cooler.

You're smart to go to Amazon; best prices, shipping, and customer service. I think you'll enjoy using your new appliance. 8)
