Have meat salads changed for you? Rambling thoughts here but I am not very keen on old-school chicken or tuna salads now. I really wouldn't like one with as much mayo as restaurants used to put. Where I lived they were gummy with mayo.
Now I tend to use a light olive oil and vinegar or simply lemon or lime juice. I like some fruit in it, often chunks of crispy apple. And we don't eat them as a sandwich--but sometimes put it on brown rice or another grain or top a big green salad. I don't remember when the last time I had tuna or chicken salad as a sandwich--almost a must back in the day.
It is interesting to me how our food choices and what is available to buy have changed in the last century! Although where I live, "Mexican", South American is still an big part of our diet--although lighter now. Sure not the frozen

I love tuna salad sandwiches. In the summer I put tuna salad on a quartered tomato.
I dont like chicken so no chicken salad for me. I do like my chef salads with ham (lunch type) or steak, or blackened shrimp and like most taco salads.

I like chicken and tuna salad and egg salad. We eat it more in the hot summer with garden tomatoes and cucumbers. I like to still do a cold plate and with potatoe or pasta salads as a side served on fresh mixed greens and romaine lettuce and shredded sharp cheese. I don't use as much mayo but still add some along with apples, grapes and pine nuts, dried cranberries in the chicken salad. Tuna and egg salad I only add mayo with celery and pickles on the side.

@Sooner OMG Patio Mexican dinners! I had forgotton all about those. I ate my fair share hear in the Midwest. I also am opposed to alll the goopy mayo used in chicken or tuna or potato salads. I prefer to make my own rather than eat that stuff from the deli case or a restaurant. I used to like Tuna salad but it just doesn't taste the same to me as it once did. I'll be making chicken salad this weekend and I put celery and walnuts in mine.

@SaveTheTurtles LOL!!! Yep! Those are the ones with those tiny little "tacos!" By us it was Mexican!
You might try Tonnino tuna in the jars. To me it tastes like tuna you would not feed the cat but keep for the humans to enjoy! Not easy to find now! I get it from Amazon but Walmart has it too I learned here recently!
Did you ever put chopped apple in the chicken salad? We just love it!!!

I enjoy homemade chicken and ham salad; just enough mayo to hold together. I do not eat egg salad or put eggs in any meat salad.
I am still in the mood for a tuna salad sandwich, but am not going to special order any and all brands available locally stink. That nasty smell is still in my head so am not sure I could eat a good sandwich if I had one.

@Sooner Thank you! No, I haven't used apple in my chicken salad but I have used grapes. I bet the apple would be good!

In general, I like chicken salad with lettuce on plain bread.
I will eat a little tuna salad the same way.

I don't like cold beef or pork, so a salad with either of those meats is always a pass for me. Shrimp is great choice. I've never tired of mayo-based salads, although I don't use a lot of mayo. My favorite grocer's deli got me hooked on their white meat chicken salad with grapes, walnuts and celery and just enough mayo to hold it together. The grapes are the bomb in chicken salad - so delicious! Hubby is big on tuna salad - I'm not a fan unless I have fresh tomatoes and a little crunchy lettuce to put with it. Oil & vinegar or lemon juice doesn't cut it for me...no matter how much healthier it might be!

I make chicken, lobster, shrimp, egg, ham and egg salad.
I make each type a few times a year. My husband loves a good sandwich on toast.
When I make chicken salad, my favorite, I use grapes, apples, celery and walnuts and sometimes dried cranberries and a little mayo with poached chicken breasts. (Waldorf salad)
I do use a little mayo with other ingredients in the other salads, but not enough to make it sloppy. I like mayo, but not gloppy mouthfuls.
I don't remember ever ordering any of these salads from a deli or resturant. I absolutely hate onions in any salad with mayo, so I make my own. There is nothing worse than old wimpy raw onions sitting in any kind of wettness or sauce. Yuck!
