Re: Those with convection ovens....

They do have larger ones available.  I certainly understand how you would enjoy an air fryer.  I have a Breville oven and use it (because of the size) for almost everything.  I 'fry' in it!

Todd English has a 5.8 on Evine that will do a whole chicken.

Isn't the air fryer just a smaller, easier to use, convection oven?

But on the other hand, I never thought I would care for a rice cooker but I got one and I do use it and like it very much!

I don't see how it could be considered easier to use. Convection ovens aren't complicated in the first place.

@jaxs mom I think both are very easy to use but with an air fryer maybe the clean up is a bit easier as you dump everything into the cooking vessel and then wipe certain parts clean and the rest are dishwasher safe.

Regular convection ovens are much more versatile than an air fryer that is for sure.

Oh @Zhills don't I know it . . . Smiley Happy

Right now I do not need nor is it in the budget to purchase a larger version but should the day come to replace my current version I would definitely look to upgrade to the larger model.

Actually I have my eye on an appliance from Gourmia that is an interesting combination of the two.  There are a couple of folks on these boards that own it and just love it . . . I have small appliance envy . . . Smiley Happy

@Zhills I think the thing is with the new air fryers it depends on your lifestyle and what you are looking for plus I think the air fryer's convection capability is more intense if that makes sense.  Since it's just me, I enjoy a handful of frozen fries, a frozen (and for me defrosted) piece of fried chicken and 15 minutes later I have a meal that tastes like it came from a commercial kitchen with a lot of grease in the bottom of the vessel.

Please know I am not a very good or experienced cook so this suits my lifestyle.  What I really would like to purchase maybe one day is one of the larger versions so I could air fry either a whole chicken or better yet a smaller turkey breast for Thanksgiving . . . Smiley Happy

@momtochloe, you're right about it being more intense, I think because of the small size, I have a micro/convection oven, but do not get the same results that I do in my air fryer

Well I don't oven fry in my convection oven. If I want fried food I fry it in oil. When I bake or roast I use the convection oven.

@jaxs mom  The whole point of the air fryers is that you can get crispy fried food by using just a small spritz of oil.  You don't get the unhealthy calories you do when frying in oil.  You cannot get effect in a convection oven.

I fry chicken wings in my regular old oven all the time.  I just coat with flour, salt, pepper and some red crushed pepper.  No oil at all.  Comes out delicious.

Re: Those with convection ovens....

@forrestwolf I have a Breville Pro convection oven, but would not want to fry in it.  For me the whole idea of an air fryer is to eliminate all the splatter and smell.  With the air fryer, there is no mess.  Makes perfect sense to me and since I live alone, what better gadgets to have as my toaster oven, induction cook tops and the air fryer and yes, I also have a 6 qt. pressure cooker.
