I purchased a Vitamix several years ago and use it almost every day.  I have made almost every recipe in the book that accompanied it. I find that I use it for making soups and peanut butter often.  Does anyone have a new use for it?  Please share.

Re: The Vitamix

[ Edited ]

I have had one for about 3-4 years which came without recipes or instructions.  I felt it might have been a return item.  At the time, my husband was in the hospital critically ill out of town and I forgot, for a few months, to call.  When I called QVC, I was told they did not have any  instructions or recipe book.   I kept it and it has never been used.  I wish you would share recipes here so I can start using it. I am sure the company could have provided me those items but it got placed on the back burner due to his having several hospital admissions in CCU in a very short period of time (8 in a year).

I am sorry to hear about your husband.  I will be happy to share recipes from the Vitamix cookbook with you. What type of recipes are you interested in?

We really like soup.  That's a great start, if you do not mind.

Thank you asoutherngirl.  My husband is in end-stage heart disease now with 2 myocardial infarctions, stent placement open-heart surgery atrial fibrillation/flutter with medications that gave him congestive heart failure and then he got a pacemaker which gave him percardial effusion and pericarditis, susequent, he had a pacemaker with defibrillation after suffering a cardiac arrest.  All this in the past 3-4 years.  He also had 2 strokes before  the pacemaker and  now has serious cognitive impairment.

I use it for smoothies every day. I also use it to grind up almonds to make almond milk. I like making my nut milk instead of buying it in the store.

Cookbooks are on EBAY and Amazon.

HOWEVER PLEASE CALL THE VITAMIX COMPANY DIRECTLY.  They have great customer service.  I am almost positive if you talk to the right person they will provide you with either a manual or a recipe book that goes along with the Vitamix.  QVC may not have been able to help but I am almost certain THEY WILL.

go to vitamix.com scroll to bottom and click on to thier site map---there is a place to check out and download owners manuals. Also 'recipes' link .

In fact when I have time I am going to surf around on that. I owned a Vitamix back in the late 90's. They are a wonderful machine with great cs in my experience. Mine lasted beyond the warranty which at the time was 7 years , which was pretty good (I have had name brand items that died just a few months after warranty of a year!) and before it ran out they made a repair on it as they had advertised at the time.

I saved my recipe book that came with that ( I love cookbooks) and was glad I did as I just purchased a Cook's  Companion blender that is very similar and use it for that. I love making a clean out the refrig. soup . It is noisy to make soup as you notice just about all companies when demonstrating put the machines in a noise deadening contraption of some sort. But it is just about 8-10 minutes. I just go in another room.

Not to recommend any other source, but if QVC doesn't have any new or different VitaMix cookbooks, you can probably find a lot of them on eBay or Amazon. There are a lot of nice ones out there on the market.

I love my Vitamix.  My new favorite thing to make is homemade frozen yogurt (unsure if this is actually already in the recipe book).  One banana that has been cut up and frozen, 7-8 frozen strawberries, 5 oz 2% plain greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of milk.  Let 'er rip.  you have to use the tamper good to get it all smooth but it is delicious.  I am trying to eat healthier with minimal added sugar and this is a delicious dessert.

I am so sorry to hear the full extent of your husband's heart problems.  I have heart problems myself, but not as extensive as your husband's.  He is blessed to have you. I can send as many recipes as you like. Below are a few of my favorites.  I hope you two enjoy them.

Bacon Cheddar Potato Soup

2  cups milk

2  medium Russet potatoes, baked, halved

2/3  cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided in half

1/4  cup chopped onion, sauteed

1/2  teaspoon dried dill weed

1/2  teaspoon salt

1  ounce bacon, cooked, crumbled

1.  Place milk, one potato, half of cheese, onion, cheese, dill, and salt, into Vitamix.  Secure lid.

2.  Select Variable 1

3.  Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 10, then to High.

4. Blend 5 minutes.

5. Reduce speed to Variable 3 and remove the lid plug opening.

6. Add remaining potato, bacon, and cheese through lid plug opening.

7. Blend for an additional 20 seconds.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

1  cup milk

1/2  cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 1/2  cups frozen or fresh broccoli

1 teaspoon diced onion

1 chicken bouillon cube

1.  Place all ingredients in Vitamix and secure lid.

2.  Select Variable 1.

3.  Turn machine on and slowly increase to Variable 10, then High.

4.  Blend for 4 minutes.
