Re: That "boring whiteware"....

I just bought a set of that time tested "boring white" cook/ bake ware for a bridal shower gift from Macy's. Cost a fraction of the price of TT and better quality, lighter in weight IMO.

Whenever they sell bakeware at QVC, they boast about its reasonable price compared to the "boring whiteware" sold at retail.  Well, today, during a food presentation, David addressed the many questions they were getting from FB commenters, wanting to know where to get the boring whiteware.  I enjoy the few pieces of Temptations that I have, but I really ❤️ my boring whiteware.

I'm with you on this! I have several sets of dishes and bakeware that are white. My favorite dishes are a set of service for 10 plus a lot of accent pieces in Wegewood China. The pattern is named Countryware. It's simple and beautiful.

Re: That "boring whiteware"....

I own a boatload of dishes, from colorful to plain white and I reach for the plain white ones much more often due to the fact that I love to use colorful tablecloths and placemats with my dinnerware.  I also love white because it doesn't compete with floral arrangements you may have in the middle of the table.  I also agree with others that food really stands out and makes a statement on white dishes.

Also, those who are familiar with the Christmas Tree Shop know that they have huge selections of paper napkins in all patterns and colors and I think I have a serious "napkin addiction".  I like to add color and interest to our meals with pretty napkins, and it's so easy to use an assortment of pretty napkins when you have simple white dishware.  It sounds silly, but it gives me pleasure to "dress up" our meals with pretty napkins.  My husband rolls his eyes and says "but all you do is wipe your mouth with them."  Oh well, he doesn't understand my shoe addiction either!

Re: That "boring whiteware"....

@Mary Bailey - I know what you're saying! Some years ago friends invited us to their home for dinner with a pretty well known chef. He would do the cooking. She went to WS and bought all-white dishes because that's what he wanted and she didn't have any. That night he said over and over that the food should be the main attraction on the plate.

I started my married life with a set of printed Laura Ashley dishes, then I inherited my grandmother's Fiesta ware. I still use that mixed with a similar multi-colored set. My mom once bought a set of off white dishes with a raised off white border. They were beautiful. They weren't her best china, but they were the "special" everyday ones. We couldn't keep everything, so I had to let those go. Now I wish I'd kept them. Smiley Sad

I LOVE  my boring  French White corningware baking dishes and use them all the time--- but I got rid of all the boring white dishes that I've had forever and switched to Fiestware in all the bright, beautiful colors that are current---makes me so happy to open up my cabinets and see all the colors--need open shelves to display them all.

Although I love color (in anything), white is nice when it's textured somehow.

Re: That "boring whiteware"....

While I use Polish stoneware 90% of the time, much of it given to me by my mother or grandmother and brought back from UNESCO  English class teaching trips in Poland.  I have never had any of it chip or break, even when dropped.   I own  dinnerware, servingware and bakeware.  I have an expansive collection of Spode Christmas tree again, dinnerware, servingware, and bakeware that has also never chipped with daily use. I have white dinnerware for Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn that has held up very well.   I bought 1 (one) piece of winter Temptations, and it came chipped.  Never again.  Also, I personally find the Old World pattern as ugly as sin, sorry!
