Thanksgiving not so favorites.

I was reading an article online today and someone did a survey of traditional Thanksgiving dishes, including turkey, that people just don't like. It got me wondering, are there any dishes that you make just out of habit, that really aren't that popular ?  Some of the things mentioned in the article were canned cranberry sauce, and sweet potato casserole . Also green bean casserole and even , gasp, thr turkey itself.

Sweetened sweet potatoes just plain make me gag.  Don't mind them cooked in a more savory way.

In recent years, I've either been invited to a friend's house, or more recenty, go out to dinner.  One thing I always avoid is green bean caserole.  I don't hate it, I just prefer all the other offerings that meal.

Yes, I avoid that myself. I've never understood the whole sweet potato, marshmallow combination.

Re: Thanksgiving not so favorites.

My mother loved creamed onions and they were apparently traditionally always made in her mother's family.  As far as I can figure, she was the only one who liked them.  I was miserable when I had to help peel and slice them.  They were so strong, I cried like a baby.

I dislike green bean casserole, and won't touch the stuff.  The rest of my family loves it.

Would much rather have plain green beans!

Re: Thanksgiving not so favorites.

OMG!  There's a lot about Thanksgiving food I don't like.  I don't care for turkey for one.  I refuse to eat those string bean things, no gravey, no sweet potatoes or dressing.

When I was a kid living with my sister and her 4 children, I'd eat a hot dog at Thanksgiving.

I have always made a turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, gravey, you name it, but I don't eat any of it.

My late husband said I was an excellent cook and I never got many complaints.

I'm just very, very picky.  I should be a bean pole but unfortunately, I manage to find the wrong stuff to put down my pie hole (Ha).

That and because I have a bad, very bad back I can't exercise much.

My husband always had my brother in law make jambalaya for every get together.  It was his speciality.  My family always liked my lasagna with every single meal.

@QVCkitty1 , thank you!  Now I know I am not the only one who hates sweet potato casserole.  Here's my story.

DH cousin joins us each year for Christmas dinner.  She is lovely, well educated and a great conversationalist.  Every year she brings sweet potato and it never gets eaten.  It was a dish never cooked in my family and no one in DH's family seems to like it.  I suggested a change to another vegetable dish and it was just like the sweet potato casserole except it for the vegetable substitute.

That was the last time I suggested a change.  LM

@Annabellethecat66  I don't like any of the traditional Thanksgiving food.  I'm with you, I'd rather have a hot dog.
