Thanksgiving- Is anyone else concerned? Ethical vegetarians, please ignore.

I live in an area that has been hit very hard by Sandy. We went to our nearest local supermarket last night and there were no refrigerated or frozen foods available at all. It got me thinking about how I could be sure my turkey would be fresh and wholesome to serve. I usually buy frozen turkeys, sometimes fresh in the supermarket, but have any of you considered buying a live turkey and having it butchered? If I do, I'm going to see if I can also send a couple to the Jersey shore. I think I can get in touch with an emergency kitchen there. Would you use a frozen turkey if it were sold in a store that had an extended power loss?
