Anyone else have a problem with Temptations cracking in the oven when baking?  I cooked chicken on my baking tray and in cracked in half at 400 degrees.  This is the second piece to do this.  Very upset considering the presentations always emphasize it is oven safe to 500 degrees.  Would seem this is false advertising.   I will not order any more baking pieces.

This seems to be pretty much standard procedure with Temptations. There are people who have never had a problem with their Temptation items and will defend the product over and over again. Many others have had serious issues with their items cracking in half, crazing, and so on. Some have posted about items cracking in the oven or cracking when they tried to take the casserole out of the oven. It's not safe to use.

IMO, this stuff is junk, plain and simple. When it comes to Temptations, buyer beware. Spend your money on Fiesta; it's made in the US. Temptations is made in China.

We've have heard many, many stories here on the boards of cooking disaster caused by faulty Temptations.  My favorite was the woman who was removing her rib roast from the oven on Christmas Day with guests assembled at the table, and the dish cracked sending the whole thing all over the kitchen floor.

I only own a couple of pieces.  If I had a lot of the stuff, I'd use it for serving, feeding the dog or whatever, but I'd never cook with it.

While this is not false advertising, as the material is indeed ovensafe, the issue is with the nature of the material itself.  While ceramic such as this can withstand high temperatures, if it heats unevenly, it can cause stress fractures.  This is why (on a much large scale) buildings and bridges have expansion joins built in as they expand and contract, and without these joints, the structures would crack and crumble.

When using ceramic, it is best to have the vessel filled with something liquid which will even-out the heat.  When cooking something on a ceramic tray, for instance, the area covered with food will be cooler than the exposed areas.  This leads to cracking.

This is something which is not endemic to Temp-tations.  I have seen it happen with Pampered Chef stoneware, Emile Henry Bakeware (both much more expensive products), as well as Pyrex and Corningware.

Yes, I wish they would stop the puffery in the presentation of these pieces.  While technically true, some of these claims would be best unsaid.

I like temptations and have a lot of it, probably too much for my own good.  But I have stopped baking in them, except to bake a cake in a 9X13 pan.  Otherwise I have moved on to cast iron for my oven roasts etc.  Not that I have had a big problem with beakage, but I did have a platter with chicken crack in the oven once, no spillage though.

Just in my observation of posts about problems with cracking of TT it seems to me the main culprits are the tray/platter like ones . This would go along with @KYToby explanation.

I like the TT that I have and use, but most of mine are smaller bakeware . I like the FL (wish they didn't have brown trim) and polka dots.

The only breaking I have had was an 8x8 tray that cracked in half just setting n a cabinet. That experience and reading in the forums make me cautious about using trays I own or purchasing large, long bakeware. I follow the instructions that come with the product as to not soaking in water etc.Smiley Frustrated
