I always have extras of everything, I love a full fridge, freezer(s), pantry and storage cabinet in the utility room (cleaning supplies, toilet paper, Kleenex, shower gets, toothpaste, etc.)

My husband said I could do inventory control for the military! I am very organized, same with supplies at the office, I keep everything under control there as well.

BUT - and a big BUT - I never waste anything. I always keep an eye on perishables and use by dates, etc. I cannot stand to throw away good food. CANNOT STAND IT .

MOM? Is that you? {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

{#emotions_dlg.biggrin} How ya doing sweetie? Remember, if you need any size lightbulbs, they are on the top shelf in the back - next to the fabric softener and bleach.

Showed your post to my mother & she was so tickled!!!! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

I have to drive 120 or 150 miles one way for a Sams Club or Costco. The only stores in my town are Walmart & Safeway. I hate the meat at both.

Re: Talk about shock!!!!!!!!!!

Even tho I can be in Wal-Mart within 20 minutes, I only shop there every 3 months, and will spend close to $400 to restock. I make 1-2 trips a month to my local grocer, which costs $300 a month, depending on their sales. Spending $900 to restock from June sounds about right to me, and is not that much with today's prices.

Re: Talk about shock!!!!!!!!!!

There are only two of us, and we don't eat many heavy meals. But a year or so ago, I would spend about $120.00 a week for groceries, bottled water, etc. Now it's always over $200.00. You can see the prices going up each week. Some things have gotten just too expensive to buy anymore, even though we are not strapped for money - just doesn't make good sense to pay so much for some things. We do get a number of things at Sams, and do a bit of freezing to accommodate the larger packaging. I feel so sorry for young people who aren't making a lot right now. It has to be very hard on young families.

Re: Talk about shock!!!!!!!!!!

forrestwolf, I hope you get to feeling and doing better very soon. I'm glad you are well enough to make such a trip to restock. That was a long time to go without restocking the shelves. It is amazing how quickly food goes when one eats at home all meals, every day.

People look at the amount of food we stock and can't believe that we would use it before it goes bad, but I prepare three meals a day for 3 (sometimes 4) people, and one is a bottomless pit teenage boy.

I have always been a smart shopper, and no more than 10% of my purchases are made at regular prices, and often not even that. I go to the stores every week, know the rock bottom prices on everything we use, and still cannot make the money go as far as it used to or I need it to. Even sale prices are not anywhere near where they were just a year ago.

We do garden heavily, have a fruit orchard, and can some food, and that helps some.
