Suggestions for new cast iron skillet

Just bought a new pre seasoned cast iron skillet. Do I need to do anything before I use it?

I appreciate your help.

Re: Suggestions for new cast iron skillet

Nope, if it's pre-seasoned it's ready to go!

Just remember to never, ever use soap to clean it, hot water only.

If you have anything that doesn't come off with hot water, use salt in the dry pan and a paper towel to 'scrub' it off.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I would rub a small amount of oil on it the first several times you use it.  They claim they are pre seasoned but I found with mine that you have to cook in it several times before it is really considered seasoned.  Good luck.

My skillet is from Lodge.  After each use I rinse it in hot water and set it back on the stove burner (turned off but still warm) then put in a bit of olive oil...wipe it well with a paper towel.  It has been a workhorse for years.

Usually, there are instructions that come with the skillet.  Read them if you have them.  If you don't go to the manufacturer's website.  You'll probably find "Use and Care" instructions there.
