Re: Storing Lettuce in Fridge?

stored in a "green bag" for produce.

placed in a lock n lock container.

it rarely goes bad before we have the chance to eat it. of course, certain types of lettuce go bad more quickly than others.

Wash it immediately before first use.

Remove what you need.

Wrap it in a clean flour sack dish towel to absorb moisture, drop that into a plastic bag, store in crisper drawer.

Plan to eat it within a short time.

Same here.

Re: Storing Lettuce in Fridge?

I've tried every way with Green Bags working best and lettuce as dry as possible. If there was moisture on it, I add a paper towel in the bag and check it for built up moisture.

I save lettuce the same way as mentioned but my biggest problem is CELERY. How do you get it to last more than a week ?

I use the Debbie Meyer green bags (HSN). Really keeps the produce very well.

I love my Freshworks containers.  Best thing for lettuce and other fresh veggies.

@Keybra

Per Google....

Wrap the celery tightly in aluminum foil.

Celery often goes bad fast because it releases ethylene, a ripening hormone. ...

Re-wrap your celery after each use.

After using celery for a meal, be sure to re-wrap it in aluminum foil. ...

Keep the celery for three to four weeks. Store the celery in your refrigerator.

I knock out the core, remove the outer leaf, run cold water in the core opening until it gets in the head

Then I pour off the water, shake and drain on paper towels for an hour.  Storage is in a large zip lock one side with paper towels  and the air pressed out.

@ECBG -

This is just what I do too.

Except I run water all around after taking out the core and outer leaves.

It lasts for about 3 weeks.

I occasionally change the paper towel.

I totally agree with this. I usually buy romaine which doesn't fit great so I cut off the bottom and stuff it in there and it stays good for a long time. Well long by lettuce standards. I don't wash it before putting it in. I take off what I need and wash it before using.
