Re: Still Buying Fiestaware (aka Fiestaware thread, Part 2)

Shoekitty: So good to hear from you, but sorry you haven't been feeling well. My husband has strep throat, but is past the 48 hours of being contagious. Antibiotics and cough suppressant are helping somewhat, but it is clinging on for a long time. He still can't lay down to sleep and has to sit up and it has been a week now.

The items that you mentioned are so special, aren't they, because your Dad brought or sent them home from Europe. I don't have a lot of "direct" items that I can trace to family, and always are so happy to hear the stories about other people's acquisitions.

Again, I'm just so delighted to hear from you. Take care.

3d: I have to agree with you about setting the table with so many types of silverware. At our house you're lucky to get a fork, knife, and spoon. And, maybe a soup spoon when that is the entree.

Re: Still Buying Fiestaware (aka Fiestaware thread, Part 2)

Shoekitty -- Welcome Back!! You were missed.

Meezer -- thank you for the update on the dishography.

Wismiss and everyone interested in the table setting info. I found a really neat site.

http://www.etiquettescholar.com/index.html

On the left, click on table setting and then click on the table at the top labeled "flatware". There are references and explanations to utensils that I never dreamed.

Wismiss -- we are like you the three main ones are what we use, unless we have guests then I break out the salad fork (LOL)

Re: Still Buying Fiestaware (aka Fiestaware thread, Part 2)

3d: That is a really neat web site. I don't entertain that fancy, but it is interesting to read and broaden my knowledge.

Just one more thing, then I have to go. We are having Open House next Sunday (crossed fingers for a good offer), and I see windows that need to be cleaned.

Here is one of the neatest products I have seen and used in a while. I received a free sample in the mail the other day, but it was from a promotional company and the smallest quantity you could order was like 300, but I found a similar item at Amazon.

It is a pen that is a stylus and a pen all in one. You can use the stylus, click the top, and then you have a ballpoint pen. How useful for when working with your smaller keypads.

Re: Still Buying Fiestaware (aka Fiestaware thread, Part 2)

I found the results page for the Strawser's Auction. There's a ton of stuff to go through, but it is interesting:

OK, 3d, how did you find that link? I guess I just don't know how to ferret out information. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Still Buying Fiestaware (aka Fiestaware thread, Part 2)

Wismiss -- I totally found it by accident. Down at the bottom of the auction page there is a column that says "For Bidders". In that column I saw the topic Auction Results Database and gave it a try. It was just pure luck.

It is interesting that some of the items I thought would go for a lot more, didn't. And that one grouping you mentioned containing all the apricot items, I would have thought could never get to $700!

A lot of the older carafes with the lids didn't even come close to what I thought they would bring. Also, the sets of older mixing bowls went for a song.

Re: Still Buying Fiestaware (aka Fiestaware thread, Part 2)

Now I remember why I had to take some time off from this thread... I need a jam jar AND an egg tray immediately {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

The silverware/spoon topic is very interesting and some of those pictures are gorgeous! I have my great-grandmother's silver and there are some tiny little spoons and forks in there. I may have to get it out and look to see if they are like those. She took in boarders in the 20s and bought her silver piece by piece, many given as gifts from the people who stayed with her. My mom ended up with it when her parents passed away, and gave it to me 10 years ago. I decided that I couldn't just let it sit there, so my husband and I used it for a few years until we moved into a house with a dishwasher. It can't go in the dishwasher, so we quit using it and it's back to sitting in a closet. Perhaps I could use the tea spoons though!

Re: Still Buying Fiestaware (aka Fiestaware thread, Part 2)

Thanks for the info, 3d. You are very observant. I never noticed that.

Jenn: What a history behind your silver. That is a very interesting story and needs to be written down so it is a part of your family's history. I just love to hear other people's stories about their treasures. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder what those small spoons and forks are called and what they were used for. Can you imagine sitting down to a table with all that silverware? Talk about a tablescape!!!

Take care, everyone.

Wismiss-Thanks for the rhubarb recipe. The longest stalks are only about 6 inches long so I may have a few weeks before I can harvest. However, there are a lot of stalks emerging. I hope that we get a bumper crop.

Jenn27-- what color egg plate and jam jar are you going to buy/

Re: Still Buying Fiestaware (aka Fiestaware thread, Part 2)

I need something in Poppy, so maybe an egg plate?! I'd love a Lemongrass jam jar because I have a needlepoint canvas that my mom did in my kitchen and the frame is exactly lemongrass. I need something in that color that sits out on the counter to match, of course!
