Re: Status of Vidalia onion crop --not real good news

I've lived in Ind and now Tx. and these ol run of the mill onions would put hair on your chest, burn your mouth out and upset your gut the whole night.

When I moved to Tx I discovered "texas sweet onions", bull ****, sweet my *** I threw in trash.  Not fit for a dog.   LOL

20 lb for $38.95 including shipping from Morris Farms, which counts sharke and Snowpuppy as return customers. I've placed my order. Less than $10 more for twice as much--now that's sweet.

Shame, Sam's don't bring in the good ones and every yr. with that place you have to know when they come in and knowing these times probably a limit and stand behind the green line and all that jazz. I go to front door and holler at DH "come carry in this box put up on counter"

LOL

I get the 20lb medium onion bag from Morris Farms

@SharkE , is that Morris Farms in Uvalda? Your endorsement is valuable, and I'm on the verge of ordering 20 lb medium, too.

They have a page on their site about storage that looks helpful.

Yep, I paid total 38 something for a double box weighing 20 lbs of mediums

Those jumbo's are too big. Mediums are large to me. LOL Husband won't eat 'em. Some yrs. they have more acid then others. Secret is to cut the ends off and either slice thick or just cut the ends off and let soak in bowl of water, dry with paper towel and put in refrigerator use when ready.

@SharkE - I am considering ordering for the first time based on your experience.  Can you tell me the difference in size between the jumbo and medium? Approximately, how many onions does a 20lb medium size yield?  I have a family of 4. Thanks so much!

@Suz614  if you click on Morris Farms, look at their double box if you want 20lbs.

Next to the pricing is a lit ? That will show you the size of the onions you're getting. I think mediums were 2 1/2 to 3" Jumbos are 3" and larger.

I love onions and found the mediums to be a great size to handle for cutting.

I live in Atlanta. I was at Publix yesterday morning and they had Vidalias. I was thrilled.  They said they just came in.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?
