This cake was sold at A&P stores when I was growing up.  It was, a spice -type cake---dark with raisins---topped with a cream cheese like frosting in a bar shape.

Delicious.  Whenever my mom sent me to the store I would  buy it---she was not pleased.

A& P closed in my area years ago but I think it was not available years before stores closed

there's a small grocery store in this area that still sells it and it's actually homemade by their in-store bakery.  It puts me in mind of a carrot cake with molasses.  But it's very tasty.

Google this, there are several versions out there if you want to bake it.  We went

to A & P but I do not remember my grandmother or mom buying this.

I worked at A&P when I was in high school.  I do remember these cakes, they were very good.

I don't remember this cake so my mom apparently never bought it.  It must have been popular, however, as there was another recent post about it.

I remember my mom buying this sometimes, I think my dad liked it.  It was an easy pass for me as I hate raisins.

Thankyou. I dont have anyone to make this for at the time. I had a Jane Parker ,A&P cookbook years ago. We had two stores in our small town. A&P and a Cooperative  Grocery store. There were two Mom and pop Groceries left also. I can recall only apples,  oranges, and grapefruit to sell in the Wintertime.

@merlin93

I think this is it at the link below, but at $35 for 18 oz, I would make it myself.

Jane Parker Spanish Bar Cake|Spanish Bar Spice Cake

Here is a recipe supposedly from someone who worked for Jane Parker at one time.

Need to scroll down fairly far to see it.

I loved it as a kid!  I am a good cook, but not so great at baking.  Might just try to make it this year.
