@Northray I have always put a little olive oil in the water before boiling. Never heard of this problem before.

Ha! Well I don't live with her. I'm in my first apartment with a roommate. And she was not home. I'm just......this could only happen to me. I ate it anyway. It tasted fine. But how weird right?

I've done that before but didn't do it this time.

No. I love my mom. Why?
Nothing intended, just a thought. Sometimes a loving memory of an experience I shared with my mother will come to mind, and it always makes me happy.

@SoCal Bred wrote:Speaking of spaghetti has anyone used a microwave pasta cooker? I just happened to click on HSN the other day, they were selling this item for $17.99 plus s/h, it cooks pasta in minutes, I am on the fence about ordering, I looked online, Amazon sells it for alot cheaper.
@SoCal Bred - There are many variations of pasta cookers on the market, including options at QVC, HSN, and Amazon. I have a Sistema pot-style cooker that I bought from QVC and use for short pasta as well as a horizontal, oval Pasta N More cooker (used to be sold by Chef Tony on infomercials, but I got it at Amazon) for long pasta. Both cookers also work for lots of other items, such as potatoes and vegetables. Their basic function is to boil water for cooking or steaming, so you use a lot less water to get the same results you'd have on a stovetop. I use one or both cookers at least once per week and wouldn't be without them. If you have any questions, I'm happy to help.
(And for what it's worth, I don't have the Decor pasta cooker they sell at QVC, but I've purchased several other Decor microwave pieces and love them, so I'm sure that cooker would work well.)

@SoCal Bred , I have had the brand "Fasta Pasta" for many years and it works like a charm. I'm fussy about my pasta's texture, it has to be al dente and if you follow the directions for pasta type and time , it always comes out just right. I have to admit that when I ordered it I was skeptical, but It was a great purchase.

I do.., Fasta Pasta.....and use it for almost everything!
Got it years and years ago and still use it.
I have even preboiled potatoes in it to use for 'smashed' potatoes.
I actually have 2 !

Italian chefs, others always, always say: DON'T PUT OIL IN THE H20!!!! Keeps the sauce from sticking to the pasta.

I used to add oil to my water too until I was watching Lidia's Kitchen and she said the same thing, so since then, I don't do that.
