So I'm making spaghetti last night and when I go to stir it to keep it from sticking together all of the spaghetti was broken in threes. It looked like what my mom would do for us when we were kids. She'd break the spaghetti in threes prior to cooking it. But I put it in whole and stirred into boiling water and then stirred it again about two times and then when I went in again to stir it, it was broken up in threes. It looked like Fideos.

Guessing you may have stirred it to quickly not allowing the spaghetti to soften a little and stirring broke it? Otherwise I am clueless.

Sounds as though you bought a package that was mishandled (dropped) and cracked.

Yes, or one in sales area or a inferior brand.

That's the thing (sound like Marybeth now) it was whole and unbroken when I put it in. It was sticking straight up like porcupine needles.
I googled it but did not find anything much. Best I can guess is that it was old or something. I don't know.

I did let it bend a bit because otherwise it will break if stirred too vigorously.
Ditto though, I'm totally clueless.

Speaking of spaghetti has anyone used a microwave pasta cooker? I just happened to click on HSN the other day, they were selling this item for $17.99 plus s/h, it cooks pasta in minutes, I am on the fence about ordering, I looked online, Amazon sells it for alot cheaper.

Do you find recollections of your mother to be disconcerting?

No. I love my mom. Why?
