For years I have wanted to try spagetti squash, but alway decided against it because I knew that it would be too hard for me to cut.  So, while at Trader Joe's about 4 weeks ago, I got a small one which then just sat around.  I am only 5'2" and my kitchen counters are quite high plus I really don't have any upper body strength.  So, yesterday it occurred to me to put the cutting board into the sink which gave me more power.  Was able to cut it and then bake it.  After scraping the spagetti out, I sauteed an onion and a couple of plum tomatoes, seasoned them with sale, pepper, carlic powder, cayenne, and some herbs, added the squash and came up with the most tasty dinner.

I have quite a bit of the squash left, so now I can look forward to a couple more dinners.  I am sure there will be more spagetti squash in my future.

I love spaghetti squash.  I don't have the patience to cut it so I buy it already cut.  It is delicious.

I just microwave it whole for a few minutes until it's softened slightly and then cut in half. Then I put it cut down in a pan with a small amount of water and steam it in the microwave for about 10 more minutes until it's cooked.

@jaxs mom  yes, that is the way I do it.  Microwaving makes it easy to cut.  Love Spaghetti squash.

That's a great idea @jaxs mom !!!  Thanks!

I usually have the kitchen in Wegman's cut it for me....they are always so helpful.

But if I shop later at night...there isn't anyone around.

Usually then I would skip it or use my husband's chain saw....but I will try your idea instead!

@CLEM

So glad it pleased your pallet , it is interesting to see when you first make it, kind of messy and time consuming.

 I have made spaghetti squash numerous ways and times over the years.  It is just an  unpleasant  tasting veggie to me.  The hype of it replacing spaghetti is a fallacy, you really have to like squash to like this veggie.  Way to much work for the taste and or benefits.  The same thing with kale - this time I jumped off the bandwagon much quicker and realized it just tastes awful no matter what you do to it.

I just bake mine whole in the oven. Once it's cool enough to handle I cut it.  As in microwaving, the skin becomes soft and is easily cut.

I finally learned to just bake it whole first in the oven too. I poke a few wholes , lay it on parchment or foiled sheet . Bake. Cut it after 15 min cool down. Easier to remove seeds that way too IMO.

You can also put it in a pressure cooker with a little water to steam it until it's cooked, let it cool and scrape it out of the skin and dress as desired.

Re: Spagetti Squash

[ Edited ]

I watched a video where they cut it 'vertically'.

(you'll end up with several small circles)

The strings came out much, much easier.
