Re: Sorry, St. Patrick.. no corned beef this year!

I don't like the smell, the taste, or the texture of corned beef. I find it to be tough, salty, and fatty.

Re: Sorry, St. Patrick.. no corned beef this year!

Corned beef and cabbage is one of my favorite dinners! We had ours this past Sunday since my husband will be out of town on St. Patrick's Day. It was delish...corned beef, boiled Yukon gold potatoes, carrots, cabbage, soda bread and Pistachio cake for dessert!

May not be the healthiest meat but we have it once a year so no harm done! Also, if you buy the right cut, it is not overly fatty!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!!!

My husband's uncle (who is 100% Polish BTW) makes the BEST corned beef and cabbage I've ever had. Will be having some tomorrow night-can't wait! If cooked correctly, it is not overly salty, fatty, or tough AT ALL. In fact it has the silky texture of a really great pot roast, just falls apart-yum.

I made it a few times many years ago until we came to the same conclusion. Neither of us are that fond of it. However, we do like kosher corned beef on rye with mustard. I read recently that the immigrant Irish adopted corned beef from the immigrant Jews at the turn of the last century. Don't know if that's true, but it makes an interesting story.

We buy it at the deli......sliced. Love it on rye bread.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

We go to our nearby Jewish deli and get an extra lean corned beef (piled high) on rye sandwich with a side of extra coarse coleslaw. Works for us.

I'll make our Corned Beef Brisket on Wednesday. My husband has a Cancer Center appointment and CT scan that day. It will be nice to come home and have dinner almost finished. We enjoy it and I buy several to freeze when they go on sale around now.

I hope you and your hubby enjoy your meal and that his scan and appt go well. Going thru all that made me exhausted and a nice meal at home would have been great.

Re: Sorry, St. Patrick.. no corned beef this year!

we just love plain cabbage and noodles sauteed in butter. I do add a little garlic and if for a main meal I also add smoked sausage cut into bite size pieces. We enjoy this since we don't care for corned beef although DH will eat it once in a great while.

instead of a Reuben I prefer the Rachael sandwich, turkey and coleslaw or even turkey and the cabbage.

Re: Sorry, St. Patrick.. no corned beef this year!

The last two years I actually "Corned" a beef brisket myself, via ATK recipe, but kinda forgot to go out and get a brisket @Sam's Club. With the time it would have taken for the meat to cure and the price of the brisket compared to every premade corned beef being on sale figured just as well not to have done it this year. But couldn't do St. Pat's without it.
