Someone tell the difference between BAKE and ROAST?

I am no spring chicken so I feel stupid.

My stove has two choices, bake or roast.

Would I be "roasting a turkey" or "baking a turkey"????

What is the difference? New stove has me stumped Smiley Happy

Re: Someone tell the difference between BAKE and ROAST?

If you're cooking food that has a solid structure — like any type of meat or vegetables — no matter the temperature of the oven, you'll roast it. If you're cookingfood that doesn't already have a solid structure, but will after it's cooked — like muffins, cake, bread, and casseroles — the proper method is baking

Oh thank you! That makes sense.

I wonder if the heat cycles differently for those two settings? Guess it is of no matter, now I know what roast is Smiley Happy

I always thought baking was below 400 and roasting was 400+

Re: Someone tell the difference between BAKE and ROAST?

I would check my oven manual.  That particular maker may have different heat cycles for those settings, like bottom element only or both or when it is down to X number of minutes the top element comes on to roast/brown the top more.....Check your manual.  If you don't have one, just Google the maker and model of your oven with the word manual.  There are usually online sources of manuals, especially at the maker's website.  It may just be different settings per the maker of your oven.

Re: Someone tell the difference between BAKE and ROAST?

I was listening to a show this morning of a man answering turkey cooking questions.  One question he answered was about cooking a turkey in a convection oven on roast or bake.

He said it should be cooked on roast and items like cookies or muffins should be cooked on bake.

To me they seem like the same, unless you have a oven that has a roast and bake feature.
