I believe so, but the only difference is that Smithfield disassociated itself from PD some time ago.

Ok, please forgive me as I am cranky because my ankle hurts from mowing the lawn but isn't that a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black with Smithfield disassociating themselves from Paula Deen?  Oy!

Please know I am no longer a fan of Paula since her ill fated Paula's Party show but Smithfield really has a ton of nerve . . .

Oh, you're totally right, MTC!  They are not so righteous either.  They are guilty of horrendous things, as you already know.

But when the fire got hot around PD for her bigotry and such they dropped her like a hot potato.  It's about money, of course, as they are a business.

ACK!  Seriously, doesn't it just make you shake your head until your brains rattle around?  I guess there really is no honor among thieves . . . blech.

Please give Mr. Ru a big hug and kiss for me!

Before everybody gets more invested in some of the misinformation  and rumors posted  about Smithfield, maybe a little more information and fact-checking are in order.

terrer3:

Much of what has been said here is not entirely or even remotely true and has become one of those infamous "urban legends" that people are prone to buy into instead of doing some due diligence about facts.

We will probably never see pork for human consumption sold in the U.S. after making  a round trip from the U.S. to china for processing.

The Chinese company that bought Smithfield not only helped bail Smithfield out of a tight financial situation (and possibly bankruptcy--can't quite recall whether the company's money  problem was that dire). The purchase  was made to help assure a better and more secure source of pork for the Chinese, who eat a lot of it.

We should be  thankful the U.S. can still export something instead of always importing cheap overseas goods.

I believe the point is that they are a factory farm here in the US.  I didn't see that anyone said they were actually shipping live animals to China, ownership aside.

The most utilized and non-wasted animal that is 100% used is the pig. It is used in everything from food to medicine. The pig is really a great animal. I grew up on a farm and we butchered our own meat, so buying it in the store is still weird to me. I can't watch those videos or those commercials about abused animals. I just can't handle that kind of treatment of animals.

Right now China won't buy our pork for fear of the virus that is hitting farms hard.

Georgia is the top producer of chicken in the country. Chicken farms are everywhere, but that is commercially produced and fully grown at 6 weeks due to the steroids. We also have many, many farms that don't use steroids, so source your chicken carefully!
