Don't buy anything from Smithfield Pork products.  Smithfield is a Chinese owned company!

@teddieg

You're absolutely right, just google it:

Smithfield Foods, Inc., is a pork producer and food-processing company based in Smithfield, Virginia, in the United States, and a wholly owned subsidiary of WH Group of China.

I refuse to buy anything offered by Smithfield, on QVC or anywhere else.

And on the Faroe Islands stuff Q sells, just google 'Faroe Island Dolphin Slaughter', which is a disgusting 'right of passage tradition' in the Faroe Islands.

Sea Shepherd (and many others) have many disgusting videos of it, if you have the stomach to watch.

KNOW what you're eating is the point, I think.

Or you could buy from Smithfield as their products are made in the USA and support local jobs. Smithfield makes many fine products, sold under various names, including the house brand for many, many, many USA owned grocery stores.

OP why specifically do you oppose a Chinese company which produces product in USA?

If it wasn't for your post @teddieg I wouldn't have known Smithfield was on the air today since I never check out the kitchen shows...ordered the ham & had it shipped to family so THANKS!

For those who love 'made in the USA' Smithfield products, you've obviously not see the undercover videos, done by investigative reporters and PETA, showing their horrific treatment of the pigs prior to slaughter,

Our city in the south staged protests and boycotts of anything to do with Smithfield, not just that they are China owned.

Do your research, if you care.......

The fake news about Smithfield pork coming from China is getting old, as is the implication that some Chinese    power is governing how the pork is handled.

The pork is grown and processed right here in the U.S. by American workers, and is very important to jobs and the economic well-being of towns where the company has facilities.

  The motivation behind selling the company to a Chinese firm was two-fold...........

Smithfield needed the sale for financial reasons,  and the Chinese needed a U.S. source to send meat to China in order to satisfy Chinese consumer demand for it.

Unfortunately, meat processing of any type is distasteful to many people, and if it could be done better, it would be.

You will have to shop  carefully to avoid  buying protein products  if you wish to  avoid a Smithfield product.

If you doubt this, look up  the incredible number of common grocery store products that  are Smithfield brands.

@KingstonsMom

I think all meat processing is gross and disgusting ... all of it, no matter who and where it is done. I have relatives who own large ranches in Montana and Wyoming and they belong to a coop of ranchers who process their beef vs selling it to the big guys. And even my inlaws say that meat processing is not something most consumers want to see.

In general, I have no issue w/ how you feel about Smithfield and you are truly entitled to hold the opinion you have and make buying decisions based on your personal beliefs ... it's what I do as well. What is challenging to me is when someone (not you) says don't buy anything from China but doesn't say why. I think if you tell someone the reason why you don't like a certain company, it is more  persuasive than a blanket declarative against buying anything from a certain country.
